XboxEra Community Hangout |OT8| Waiting for E3 2023

I bet they do. They had it for all the recently released releases including Spyro.

Edit: Sorry, meant marketing.

Would be fascinating. But Microsoft really have a knack for going after companies where Sony is either sniffing around or has some deals.

Actually I saw some tweet than for 2023 year, Square Enix has 0 games that are released on Xbox. Is it true? If so, then it is very interesting.

Yep, no confirmed Square titles for Xbox in 2023 as far as I’m aware.

I’m not quite on the “Sony is buying them!” train yet, but there’s gotta be something going on.

Would make a lot of sense for them though, especially to own 2 huge MMO/MMO-lites (FFXIV and Destiny). Plus whatever Factions ends up being,

Fascinating.

Sony’s strategy for years has been pushing to get exclusives or bonuses for their playerbase through deals with publishers - it’d be hard to find a publisher that isn’t tied up in some kind of Sony deals.

Also to your latter point, Square Enix has 3 titles coming out this year on Xbox and 2 of which were announced this year (with the third being announced at the end of last year) - so while they may not have any titles announced for 2023 that doesn’t really rule anything out.

These days? Actually not that many. Marketing deals aside, all the existing Sony’s deals (even with Capcom) does not hurt Xbox too much at all. Games like SF6 do not even get exclusive beta for example. Unlike the deals in the beginning of the gen, all the recent deals are quite toothless. Even from Japanese publishers.

I don’t count this year. But situation is interesting. Even some FF games went to Xbox this gen. I still don’t buy into SE acquisition, but the situation is odd. Especially considering that we even got Suikoden ports from Konami.

Twitter is making me laugh lately.

Fantastic game, what a crazy 2nd drop that is incoming.

So the 2nd gamepass half drop is at least:

  • Hardspace Shipbreaker on console 20th
  • Beacon Pines 22th
  • Slime Rancher 2 early access 22nd
  • SpiderHeck 22nd
  • Deathloop 20th
  • Prodeus 23rd
  • Grounded 27th
  • Moonscars 27th
  • Despot’s Game 28th
  • Valheim 29th (PC)

Nothing for 2023? Wow. Yeah, something is up. Because we are still getting some titles this year. Either they are buying them or they just make deals with SE for the games that truly are worth it so they skip Xbox.

I mean, I’ve said it plenty of times already, today too even, but it’s nothing to do with Sony. Square’s releasing 2 self-published Switch exclusives/console exclusives (meaning they might not even be moneyhatted) and then even more that are Nintendo published. Sony isn’t buying them or on the cusp of doing it or anything of the sort. And the conspiracy theory I keep hearing that “Sony pays Square to skip ONLY Xbox” is just tinfoil hat shit IMO.

But it’s a strange situation though. Phil was out there in Japan getting all these studios to bring their games to Xbox, I am sure he would want these games like the Dragon Quest spin off, especially since 11 did rather well on Game Pass.

I guess we can’t know what’s truly going on, except that they pay to keep FF7R off of Xbox. Of that there’s no doubt.

Idk either, one thing I thought of is maybe Square wants Xbox to be more popular domestically (in Japan) to “commit”. There’s been some moves/behaviors from them I think signal they care deeply about domestic popularity (though not enough to ignore Sony moneyhats even with PS popularity also bad in Japan, though nowhere NEAR Xbox’s level of low). It’s just one theory.

It’s also worth noting Diofield and Star Ocean are not developed at Square. Lancarse and tri-ace respectively developed them. I believe FF7 Crisis Core is an internal game, but it’s an FF game not moneyhatted by Sony, of course it appears on Xbox.

The other theory is they think they can collect GP checks by not putting their game on Xbox and thus “baiting” MS to pay for it because of fan demand. (The solution there seems kinda simple… Just tell them they can’t have GP checks anymore if they don’t commit to Xbox with multiplat releases.)

The funnier theory is they stripped the “Xbox budget” for this NFT shit they wanna do lol.

But I’ll never fall into the “Sony boogeyman” theory. It’s just people who want to see more “epic” publisher acquisitions

Imagine Microsoft acquiring them using “Fine, I’ll do it myself”

Crisis Core, I gotta say that if the game is good and for the right price I might bite. It just feels so damn weird to have this FF7, but not the Remake. I still see people on Reddit and Twitter having hopes for it coming to Xbox but I have absolutely given up on that. It’s clear that Sony is not going to allow it, as ridiculous and silly as that sounds.

You just love to see it

There’s also the IGN Japan “fan Q&A” pretty soon, tonight or tomorrow. They’ll be asking Phil and Sarah questions from the Twitter replies here. I hope whatever “critical” questions were asked are presented to them (such as inquiring about XGS games with bad translations and what they are planning about that), I assume these will be heavily selected/curated

He’s obviously not referring to us 2nd class gamers… Only Premium™ gamers gets an Advantage™.

Very compatible with whining about others making games exclusive.
