My thinking is a lot of the time people in position of control don’t tend have much empathy to the people under them who are affected by their decisions.

Yeah, i saw the original tweet by Glen. I was sharing that it was deleted. They likely realized it wasn’t going to go anywhere but extra ugly after the first replies. :speak_no_evil:

Glen obviously comes from the old guard when it comes to that mentality. I hope he takes in constructive criticism and creates a healthy environment for himself and his workers on the next project.

That type of thinking should be eliminated from the gaming industry.

Personally for me, it’s pretty selfish but crunch doesn’t impact my enjoyment of a game at all so I won’t be boycotting but it’s a shame to see a new studio with a lot of promise partake in the rigid old “grind or bust” mentality.

“Old guard” is a tired excuse. Everyone can change with the times and adapt.

It’s not really an excuse, it’s just the reality of things.

People can be stuck in their ways and that’s the reality of life. Society usually just leaves those type of people behind in the past who can’t get with the times and moves on from them.

Same will probably apply to Glen if he doesn’t see this moment as a teaching lesson.

Oh it is definitely used as an excuse by many for themselves and others, absolutely not saying you are though.

You are right though that it usually sorts itself out, but it still influences peoples lives. Like the devs working under Glen f.e. Doubt they won’t have to crunch tomorrow.

For sure if you’re saying it with the context of making it as an excuse.

I clearly wasn’t, at least I hope it came across that I wasn’t.

And yeah, I doubt they’ll be crunching with Jason lurking in the tall grasses lol.

Crunch wouldn’t bother me if. It I was paid hourly. If I’m working that much and it’s salary noooooo way. I have 3 jobs all tech work from home jobs. One pays 70k one pays 65 base. They are hourly. I’ll work overtime as much as possible for those. My third job is salary and it pays the least at 45 k I won’t do a second of overtime for them

What kind of tech are you in that allows concurrent employment? I work from home, in tech - I make 250 split into base/commission (because lol sales) and definitely not hourly, but I have harsh “you can’t work anywhere else” clauses. I imagine most people in the gaming world work under similar “you can’t do anything else and also not hourly and also half your comp is conditional on deliverables.”

crunch made some sense when it took a final push of 2 weeks to get a game out. then it became 2 months and already reared its ugly head. now its 2 years and people celebrate that shit social media. i can’t.

None of the jobs know about eachother and there is overlap. I have a 6 screen set up in my office so I just bounce back and forth. I’m not sales More on the audit and compliance side so im never on a phone. My wife doesn’t work and I want to make sure her and my kid have everything they need. This lifestyle allows that. Cool part is there is so much downtime at these jobs I actually get to game quite a bit. Next to my 6 screen set up is my 48 inch oled ps5 and series x:)

But thats not the work environment at Callisto Protocol.

Are they salary employees who are just working a lot more than 40 hours? If they are that sucks

I don’t know their contracts. But iirc hourly pay is not very common in the games industry. The head honcho bragging about this shit on social media is also very sus.

Also there are studies that show working long overtime a lot lowers quality of the product. I know for a fact when i had long days for months my first task in the morning was often fixing my own stupid bugs. This shit just doesn’t work.

You work three jobs simultaneously and play video games? This sounds
 well, be careful lol

I manage to game a ton during the day with the sales job and my five monitor set-up, but hiding jobs from other companies in the audit and compliance game is dicey. Be careful Bacon! I’ve been in the security space/SaaS space for years and I’ve seen that blow up badly.

Makes me feel for the guys on Callisto though, which sounds like they have literally the opposite amount of freedom/lifestyle.

I assumed when people were always discussing crunch that despite the extra hours, they were still getting paid for those extra hours, so while I’m not saying it’s worth it over health and sanity, I figured they’d be getting what they were owed from it

But if it’s a fixed salary no wonder people are so against crunch, that shit sounds awful

Yeah, very few salaried jobs pay over time.
