NRS is a must have

The rest would be nice but NRS is the only one they should not miss out on, going for a publisher would be hard with the ABK thing going on but a single studio like NRS shouldnt be a problem

Yes, and I would add Batman to the ā€œmust haveā€ list.

I’d rather fill the third person action adventure/superhero game niche than the fighting game niche personally.

I would definitely argue that XGS could use a studio and IP like a Monolith or Rocksteady is known for just as much though. They are known for top quality third person action adventures and the current studios at XGS just don’t really make those with the exception of NT of course.

You can find a lot of studios that can make third person games. Even first person studios pivoted to third person games. But fighting games studios are really really rare.

There are a lot yet we have none.

Agree with @TheBrightestSun

It’s not hard to make the former type of games, any relatively flexible AAA studio can adopt those games. Butt the fighting game is very specific, on top of that they also own the MK IP…

A lot of Xbox studios like first person games. Most of acquisitions (Double Fine aside) are essentially studios with the history of the third person games. It is more about desire. Like if Machine Games make third person Indiana Jones, they would pivot from FPS to TPA. Fable is also supposed to be third person. And that’s the studio (PG) that made racing games before.

But fighting game studios is a huge problem for Microsoft.

MK almost certainly comes with NRS and therefore has no licensing issues, Batman and those other studios would be great but they come with more bagge purely because of that

Having NRS/MK not only gives you the premiere fighting game studio but ensures the fighting game community can never skip xbox even if a street fighter situation happens again

Playground and Compulsion and MachineGames are literally doing it though :skull:

I have a hard time calling fighting game studios a huge problem when Sony doesn’t even have fighting game studios.

They dont need them, they get them by default

After they moneyhatted SF5 they got most of the fighting games by default. And Arc Systems Works is in the pocket anyway.

They could get Rocksteady and not necessarily have to worry about licensed IP if MS doesn’t want to, have them make something new, but personally I really would like to see MS giving a big license a chance then.

Fable is more like a RPG, isn’t it? I recall it being called a new open world RPG before it was announced as Fable. Compulsion is true, but will it be AAA like a Rocksteady is known for? We have to wait and see. MG is also wait and see, third person has not been confirmed just yet.

I’m not even a ā€œgive me third person gamesā€ kinda dude, but it’s an obvious gap in the lineup a d I’d argue that filling that should be higher priority than fighting games (especially when the biggest ones are already cross platform).

If Xbox big IOI or Square Enix Europe then it’d be a different discussion.

Right now Microsoft’s direct competitor is dominating one of the biggest genres there is, and with first party titles.

I’m fine with both, I think the discussion is under the assumption that Xbox can’t get away with buying all of WB.

I bet they can get at least 2 studios.

We talking about Rocksteady here, Compulsion’s last game is We Happy Few. I have high hopes but they ain’t gonna be there yet lol

Also, Indian Jones will be first person :stuck_out_tongue:
