“…The only worry I can see from your post is that “easy mode” might not be a thing anymore…”
Then you’re not actually reading what I’m writing.
Also, git gud Fromsoft world design scrubs…

It won’t. I’m talking about marketing. Steam numbers is a narrative Xbox shouldn’t care too much, it’s not the core platform. It’s for the markets they can’t (or don’t want) to reach directly and for the ones who hates MS with fervor, a mean to play the games and be ok with their conscience.
ER isn’t going to change much
Just look at BOTW, people constantly go on about influential it’s been but it really hasn’t changed much at all
This is also true. Monster Hunter World was a massive success that sold like 20m and it did not result in a flood of Monster Hunter clones and left little influence. Animal Crossing New Horizons sold that too and again there isn’t much flood of AC clones outside of the indie scene.
Bethesda games do actually intricately design the world in a similar way too.
Love Elden Ring, but every time From fans post that cringy image attacking Ubisoft games or pretending that only From knows how to make an openworld game I regret buying it lol.
Edit: and I don’t even like Ubisoft games
So they ignore BGS game worlds?
I’mma keep it real with you, Ubisoft game worlds invite exploration every bit as much as Elden Ring.
Only difference is that in a Ubisoft world the player has the option, that is the option to select an icon on a map & have the compass lead them directly to their goal. They also have the option to not do that & just… explore.
Iv always found souls fans obnoxious and elitist but ER has really catapulted them up the list as one of the worst fanbases
and iv always found the elitism over the difficulty in the games so exaggerated, there’s so many ways to grind and cheese in the games, especially in Elden Ring
I dont find these games any harder than the average game from ps2 and before but dont dare go saying that or criticising the games at all, they take it very personally
When they say “you didn’t actually beat a boss if you played in coop/used ashes of war/used a healing potion/wore armor/didn’t play with a Guitar Hero controller”…
I don’t expect the world design to be followed by other publishers, and that’s fine. Fromsoft will keep making their games the way they always did and that’s enough for me, same for other games from other publishers, each one has their onw style, for better or worse.
I’d rather a publisher take their onw risky spin on open world and make it work for them, trying to copy others never goes well.
I also love Remnant from the Ashes, they took the core of souls games and made their onw take from it, same with Hollow Knight.
In the end there will be enough games for everyone, but not every game should follow the same recipes.
I do agree that the redditor drew too many green arrows on the Elden Ring screenshot (I guess to try and make the image appear “smarter”?) But I did feel it made a good point on how well designed the world was without telling you exactly where everything is.
Ubisoft could never match that
As someone who has never played a From game and has no nostalgia, Elden Ring looks really bland and the open world from what I saw looks barren, bland and boring. Some of the boss fights I saw look really simple all you do is hit doge hit doge with a super predictable boss.
Again I’ve never played any of their games so this is probably just what they normally are but as a complete outsider this is my thoughts. Now I have only seen random bits and bobs so I haven’t seen everything but some of the boss designs are weird do like this big boss that is sitting on a tiny horse that runs around really fast??? Haha the game just really doesn’t look great for me, have zero interest in it which feels weird seeing all the hype.
Please don’t shoot me ER fans
Yeah but the thing is, that’s just an image of the scene that greets the player on entering the world for the first time. Yes you can see your immediate goal, etc, but that’s something which has been done a million times in other games, going back years. It’s not some kind of unique genius of From’s. They just did it as well because it works & is useful to the player.
That image doesn’t actually tell you anything about how the rest of the world of Elden Ring is designed.
Silence! The Emperor wears the finest robes ever seen!
I found out that Chocobo racing remake for Switch is another victim to Square failed attempt at live service. They should really back off on it…
If you can’t beat this using only a Rock Band drum controller, then you need to GET GUD.
