yeah I figured. no worries.

But still that’s a lot of fucking money. I don’t even think most of that money goes back to GameFreak, otherwise we’d be seeing much better handling of that franchise.

Capcom has nowhere near the costs of Sony maintaining PS, nor the sheer volume of releases. Anyway they are adapting, pc ports, more GaaS, etc…are not random moves.

Or they are simply greedy and inexcusable. XD

Speaking of game budget, what drives AAA budget up high every gen ? isn’t time to find solution ?

i dont really think GameFreak as a developer has any grand incentive to be greedy lol. But them owning 1/3rd of the stakes to the IP definitely makes it a bit complicated. They aren’t given 5-6 years for a single game like Nintendo gives a Mario or a Zelda. Being annual to biannual does put a wrench in the gears.

4K textures, more complex animations, AIs, physics simulations, bigger worlds, etc…

Whats the cost of maintaining PS?

And i’m pretty sure thats not correct. Capcom had more releases than Playstation last year.

Its a lot of manpower to build these big game worlds and regular content for service games.

PSN? That’s not free. Marketing for the platform (and also games, some of these even from Capcom? XD).

AAA-wise Capcom has never had as many as Sony releases.

Anyway, your comparison with Nintendo is flawed, Sony would bankrupt yesterday if they followed their business model. XD

An interesting point to make is that once the ABK acquisition goes through, even though PlayStation will still generate more revenue, it is almost certain that Xbox will be generating more profit.

It’s probably why Sony is aiming for so many live service games rather than have a few.

I think they are already on par, MS estimate was based on 2020 figures, but 2021 Xbox results already account for Bethesda and the spike was big (more than 3B).

They are definitely not there yet since they made $16.28 billion for 2021 and I suspect their profit margins are not that different compared to PlayStation’s, so the division probably made around $1.5 billion in profit.

~ 16 from Xbox + ~ 8 ABK =~ PS.

And that without even 1st party or Bethesda starting to roll out the new course.

In terms of revenue Xbox will be just behind PlayStation once the deal goes through, but in terms of profit they should be significantly ahead of them. ABK almost makes as much profit as PlayStation does by themselves.

That honestly will put an interesting dynamic because Xbox will not necessarily need seed money from Microsoft, instead they will just use the profit it generates to reinvest back in the business. I don’t think you can say the same for PlayStation though.

well to be fair MS releases their games on PC, if Sony released their games day 1 on PC it should be even higher than MS

I think there’s the chanche they’ll even surpass them in 2023 when the deal closes, GP will be even bigger and 1st party will start rolling, also a significant part of PS revenue was tied to COD and dumbing down Xbox version of features.

But how much is it?

Oh, now its AAA games. You are just moving goal posts.

I don’t have to compare them to Nintendo only. There are lots of game companies with way better profit margin which don’t have the benefit of getting 30% of every microtransaction or without almost 50 million subscribers :woman_shrugging:

Goal posts? Those are the games which cost a fortune to make, come on man. Not certainly the Ace Attorney collection and such. Sony also markets most of Capcom big games. XD

I don’t judge harshly Sony, they have still done a better job than MS overall during their gaming tenure, MS has had an inconsistent output during its 20 years and only now there is a real vision for the future.

you also forget these companies release their games on more platforms than PS

this is presuming ABK continues to operate under Xbox exactly as it does now.

People gotta decide do they want that or a world where every studio under Activision isn’t just making or helping make CoD every year, in turn contributing to that high profit numbers that can only come because of CoD being a yearly machine.

Can’t have it both ways. If ABK has to get better under MS, they would have to loosen the CoD grip significantly. Make it biannual instead of annual at minimum. Take Raven, High Moon, Beenox, Toys for Bob, all off of CoD permanently.
