Just watching cricket here - and 6.3 6.6 million online users right now. This is just the Disney plus figure. Not even counting TV figures.

Compare that to - “The 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland was seen by an average audience of 6.1 million viewers (TV + Digital) across ABC, ESPN, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, and digital channels for the three-day event, making it the third most-watched Draft ever.”

The Xbox and Disney Plus partnership needs to grow, imho.

Kind of disagree about that. Insider rings are usually fairly solid when it comes to features they’re not messing with. So sharing on insider rings behaves the same as on official rings.

Just me giving him a hard time, lol

This might be the only podcast where I have heard cricket questions from - (aussie) xbox fans.

I just recalled - how many understood the last question to Nick today? “what do they prefer: test, one day, T20”

We have another type of competition in England now, they started “The Hundred” this year!

“The Hundred (cricket) - Wikipedia” The Hundred (cricket) - Wikipedia

Also enjoyed the cricket chat today, Beefy Botham getting his inaugural podcast mention :joy:

It’s more of a case that David Fincher and Netflix can reach an agreement, but at least they were at the discussion table a couple of months back, so hopefully, S3 gets announced soon.

At times we talk about non gaming stuff here, few months ago we we’re talking about and showing the strange creatures that can be found in Australia and such, giant spiders and crabs and stuff. Should we go back to that?

Really though, we kinda need a TV shows/movies thread.

Well, India is huge. I mean they literally have more people that USA and the whole Europe combined…

The point is Disney Plus matters more than Netflix despite people fawning over their 200 million userbase numbers.

This is primarily because their abc/espn/star/fox/sky reach is already well established into areas like sports.

I mean that’s kind of unfair because DIsney is ENTIRELY leveraging the massive popularity of their juggernaut IP’s.

I mean Netflix doesn\t really have any MASSIVE homegrown IP except for Stranger Things and a few limited series that strike it big.

Granted Netflix keeps CANCELING everything that couild be big, but it’s like bringing a spoon to a bazooka fight.

Star Wars, Muppets, Marvel, Pixer, Disney Classics, Nat Geo vs Stranger Things and what else?

What?! What is this thing?!

Games come on RFID cards and are treated as NFTs?!

cringe

Can’t also believe they’re literally piggybacking on SaveAFox Foundation’s famous fox named Finnegan and making a game with that name.

I don’t want to say scam

But games coming on RFID that are NFTs and Blockchain just sounds like some shit somebody would write for a TV show about a Video Games buisness that has no idea about how games work

Writer: I got this idea for a show about people making games.

Producer: Yeah, and you could use the words NFTs, and Blockchain, and RFIDs right?!

Writer: Yeah, I think that’s how games are made.

Disney+ is like half the cost as well

Actually - I think Netflix is massive and matters a lot due to their size of 200m users. Their IPs might not be well known, but they are a worldwide force – for the time being.

But for Disney - even if they did not have their IPs, their presence is amazingly vital - unlike Netflix. And may grow rapidly. That is why I insist that a partnership there is essential.

Consider this: which programmes attract the highest viewership - not The Mandalorian, not Loki, not Wandavision, – despite all influencers telling you so.

But things like the Kentucky Derby (14m), NBA (6m), soccer/football and sports like cricket. And Disney dominates in sport.

Cricket IPL viewership for 3 months across all mediums (digital and TV) is 100 million. Not even kidding here. 100m per day.

Consider this - 46m from India in one year watching Disney Plus. Because of cricket. And not because of the original content and IPs that Disney offers.

Star Wars or Avengers are massive IPs. These programmes/movies are loved (in urban pockets) but not considered vital. I’ve never seen so many people subscribe to a streaming service like I did in 2019 and 2020 – all for sport.

There is an added learning (‘lemma’) here for gaming too: Xbox has to invest in exclusive rights to one or more popular sports. NBA or FIFA or NFL. Rapid growth does not come from original content alone. There are sports IPs that people will gravitate towards. NBA expires in 2026 (Take2 2bn license), FIFA expires in 2022, I think, and I have no clue when NFL expires for EA - but getting one of these IPs is vital.

I don’t get what kind of partnership you are suggesting when it comes to Disney+ though. A bundle?
