The sandbox mechanics in GTA are far better, but I really don’t like sandbox games. I play singleplayer games for the story and I found Cyberpunk’s story to be miles better than the GTA V one.

Idk, there are a lot of early 2010’s games with far better shooting mechanics than GTA. Also Red Dead 2 has not improved much in that sense.

naah, RDR2 in 2018 has the same issue highlighting the precise fact that Rockstar’s game design hasn’t evolved.

jinx lol

I enjoyed RDR2 because the story is amazing and the graphical fidelity was unmatched but the quest design is really poor IMO.

Sounds like I’m in for a treat!

And yeah I agree, the story wasn’t anything too special in GTA V. I did like the better variety in mission design compared to IV though.

i agree 100%. RDR2 doesn’t just have the best looking open world but also one which feels alive at every wake. Just exploring that world alone could be a reason to buy that game. There are several things that game got right, like you mentioned - the story, characters and production is just simply unmatched in the industry, but it also had several things which held it back when it comes to the actual gameplay itself.

So is there a lot of variety and depth to the quests in Cyberpunk? I didn’t watch many reviews last year and stayed away from stuff on purpose.

I think you’re playing yourself if you pay attention to Xbox hype-men and then are dissapointed when nothing happens.

Yeah, i found the quest design to be pretty good and usually you can complete quests in multiple ways.

We still have TGS in 10 days so there should be hopefully some news. Something like Dark Souls in Game Pass would be nice.

I wonder what Phil or Aaron think about those insiders who constantly set weird expectations (especially close to conferences) for Xbox to match. Can’t imagine they like that.

It’s basically free PR. At the end the only source you should 100% trust is Xbox itself and Microsoft Store.

@Staffy here’s my gist.

@Callangoso to know what you think.

to those who still haven’t played CP2077. Here’s my gist of the positives of the game, I’ll list the meh or negatives in the post after.

+Incredibly well written characters, and a pretty good story. I cried at the end of my first playthrough and felt empty for days.

+Decent gunplay, especially for a developer who is doing shooting in their games for the first time ever.

+the game is drop dead gorgeous if you’re not on 2013 consoles or dogshit PCs, and you don’t need RT for this. I spent hours and hours just in photo mode, and could unload at least 50 pics to demonstrate this but I digress.

+it’s true, CP2077 having first person was the right decision, and there are several moments in the game where it is repeatedly justified. Also, you aren’t locked of the camera during cutscenes or dialogue interactions, characters don’t just stand in one place to tell you things like many RPGs do, they walk around, have their own idiosyncrasies. You are always part of the scene, every one of these interactions is in first person and directed beautifully to service the first person immersion, making a lot of these interactions far more intimate than if it were in third person.

+Quests are great. The main and side ones at least. This is expected of CDPR, if they’re masters at anything, it’s this. Whole entire character arcs are introduced and unraveled in side quests alone, like there will be instances where you’re like “wait this isn’t even part of the main story??” and they blend between each other rather seamlessly. They have enough variety and some of them are gonna be memorable and talked about for years to come IMO.

Wait till the next major event is on the horizon. We will probably know everything shown at the Game Awards.

On the other hand, the negatives or mehs, which are a combination of systemic issues with the game that cannot be solved with updates, and small issues that can be improved or provided via patches and updates, but still haven’t.

-the performance issues of course. I won’t mention this in detail we have all already gone through this conversation. If you’re on PC, the game was kinda already very very playable from start to beginning outside some UI and input issues popping up from time to time. For console, I think the scars have been rather deep and the game is still recovering, I would say expect the game to get to a comparably good condition in early 2022. If you can, please don’t experience this game on dogshit 2013 consoles, I know that’s not fair, but you’re just better off doing it on series consoles or ps5 or on PC.

-don’t expect this to have GTA level sandbox interaction. This is not a good GTA game if you’re looking for that. It has horrible cop AI, horrible traffic AI, the NPCs outside story and quests are literally carboard cutouts that say one of five things at max. There was an instance when I’m on stage as Johnny and I try to interact with someone in the crowd and he says something like “fuck you, get away from me” lmaoooooo, like it’s that bad. So yeah, outside story and quests, don’t expect half-decent NPC interaction. Most of them are also very dumb and detract from the overall immersion of the game world.

-crafting is largely useless and the game doesn’t produce any situations during the entire playthrough to actually use crafting to interact with and modify the weapon sandbox that help significantly.

-the bosses are generally very easy to beat.

-majority of the actual architecture in the game just exists as set dressing ie you either cannot go there or there’s no interactivity possible with it. Certain parkour abilities actually alleviate this issue like the double jump (which is the most fun AND crucial thing you get in the game IMO that it shouldn’t even be an option), but the game doesn’t reward you enough for exploration as much as it could, cuz the world is already there, just make it possible to go there or interact with it more. Can’t believe that in 2077, you still gotta fucking take stairs to travel between most places.

-zero post game or negligible replayability. Not even an NG+ for those who want to play through the campaign again while keeping the upgrades, stats, inventory, etc. How is there no NG+ still nearly a year later?

-Johnny Silverhand plays a much bigger role in the game than initially thought. This I think was both a good thing because of how good that character is, but him being that central also affected the game’s replayability and RPG nature a lot, where you can’t make your own story that doesn’t revolve around the guy and that is kind of a downer IMO.
