Oh I didn’t know there was a thread for this. I just saw this note on the top of the site. So just had a quick read and it clicked with me how the things have been going lately on the thread.
But sure If I have something related to discuss I shall post on that thread
It might be more to Microsoft’s benefit to try to get a license directly for their own studio to create than to acquire a WBStudio or fund a WBStudio produced game. Maybe?
It doesn’t really matter if you or anyone else shows interest at $2 when the seller is out of touch and is demanding over $10. It wasn’t unconditional interest, obviously, otherwise the acquisition would have happened.
If the price was much more reasonable for studios that don’t have their own IP for the most part, the studios would have been bought. Plenty of studios get bought even though they don’t come with their own IP - Playground for example - but the price obviously reflects that.
4 billion for WB Games was way too much and obviously all the big publishers agreed.
There’s probably an implied “at the sellers asking price” or “with the IP license restrictions” missing from most statements related to that. So both statements in spirit could be true, but the actual written statement would be wrong because of the omissions.
Still remains to be seen if they even make it out of the WarnerDiscovery era without being sold off. It’s entirely possible WBIE gets shipped off and they just license out the IPs a la Lucasfilm Games.
Apple doesn’t strike me as wanting “AAA” budget games and devs on their payroll. Amazon is barely keeping AGS afloat, and Disney has already shown the don’t care to get involved in games.
