As someone who’s a software engineer, who’s also been responsible for hardware review and research, and as someone who probably puts more time on his Series S than any other platform (including my rather beefy PC, Ally X w/eGPU, and Series X), the amount of verifiable bullshit that the media and zeitgeist have spun about the Series S has been hilarious. I intend on writing a long rant about the beauty of console and PC gaming, Creation Engine 2, Starfield, and the Series S, when I take an extended holiday in December… the fact that families were able to pick up a next-gen console for $300 for the majority of this generation was pretty amazing (and that’s still more powerful than the Nintendo console released 5 years later, for more money - aware of the differences of components, doesn’t change the fact). I genuinely love being able to see the scalability in the majority of games/engines, and Series S has always presented itself well in those examples.
Anyway, corpo media is disinformative, ignorant garbage at this point.
I’m playing Microsoft Treasure Hunt- but I don’t need to play the game, I just leave it running for about fifteen, twenty minutes while I do other (non PC) things.
In addition, I just turn on my X, start a slow game, and also leave it running for the same time, and that counts too.
There’s over 30 million of us with the same grin as the guy at the end of the video, waiting comfortably at home until midnight to start playing thanks to Gamepass.
Yep. I like the other ad with the guy blowing into the cartridge. That was funny and true. People want to cling to all of this old shit as opposed to evolving and adapting.
Bingo. There are actual problems in the world, and my gaming habits are the last thing in my world bringing me any distress. Now excuse me while I pre-download Outer Worlds 2 so I can play tomorrow as soon as I’m off work
YouTube is just like that unfortunately. Especially for Xbox these days. It’s EVERYTHING with them. Multiplatform, game pass, Xbox Play Anywhere, Xbox has no games, Xbox steals games (acquires studios and publishers). they hate it all depending on the day of the week. And they’re so confused and incoherent too. You tell yourself to ignore, but it’s also just stuck RIGHT THERE because of how YouTube works. You should watching any of their ROG Ally ad videos or the Ninja Gaiden helicopter ad or the “this is an Xbox” ads or the Xbox Cloud Gaming “no Xbox required” ads.
Even when comments are “positive” they’re all so brain dead. Because of how YouTube works, it’s all just likes farming and the top comments you read are just the most successful one liners.
For the record, the recent Pokemon has sold 5.8 million in a week. If you stick around the internet, you would think this game would tank badly. Like many other things in the internet, it will be nothing but just hogwash.
I wish it’d tank. Gamers complain so much, but actions speak louder than words. Crazy what Nintendo and Game freak get away with with a $70 game (on Switch 2). And admittedly it’s frustrating with all the conversations now about Xbox financials. Like man, I just wish the market collectively benefited the value of Xbox over stuff like this.
Most gamers are allergic to change and trying new things (just look at the Ninja Gaiden 4 discourse or the sales of the lackluster at best PS5), they like things that they’re used to and comfortable with (this is also why very few new IPs are successful nowadays) plus nostalgia plays a big role as well. As it is pointed here many many times almost everyone in the industry is bitching about the high prices and how expensive everything is yet the same people talk shit about the Series S and Game Pass all the time.
I’ve stopped trying to make sense of what gamers think and want when at the start of the generation Sony upped the software prices to 80 euros and said all the lies about “believing in generations” while they were actually developing the cross-gen version of Forbidden West, GT7 and Ragnarok and gamers instead of roasting them they were saying how Series S will hold back the generation (lol) and how cross-gen games were the Devil. So yeah…no point in even trying to make sense of any of that, gamers get what they deserve.
There’s ninja gaiden 4 discourse? Actually don’t tell me. This has been the most fun action game I’ve played since DMC 5 and in a lot of ways it feels more fluid and hits harder than DMC 5 (everything feels epic and it’s so bloody and I love slicing enemies so much).
Yeah, but the problem is that I have to live in this market they collectively set.
Yes there is and it’s as bad as you can imagine. Endless bitching about how this isn’t “their” Ninja Gaiden and all that BS, like they own the series or something…the very definition of entitlement (does that remind you of something?
cough Halo cough). The funny thing is that even today’s Team Ninja can’t replicate what Itagaki and co. did back on the OG Xbox/360 days…their latest games are decent but they are nowhere near Itagaki’s output.
At the very least they should give the game a fair chance before spewing worthless hot takes.
We can’t do much to be honest, sadly we are a small part of the whole market/industry. The only thing we can do is play and support the games/studios that we believe are worth our time and money.
