XboxEra Community Hangout |OT13| The Bakers Dozen

It’s great to read this, especially since it’s a brand new IP and isn’t this studio also relatively new/unknown?

The Game Pass deal was probably a smart decision at the time considering that they are a new studio so the extra money couldn’t hurt, it seems to be doing well on Game Pass too going by the most popular Game Pass games charts so that’s good, I was hoping it would reach top 20 on the most played as a whole on Xbox though and last night it was at 32nd most played when I checked, hopefully overall numbers are great, Oblivion on the other hand is 6th most played, showing the power of that IP, obviously not comparable for obvious reasons, Xbox gamers are probably hungry for a new Elder Scrolls game and I understand that the main audience for Expedition 33 probably isn’t on Xbox though but still so glad and thankful it is on Xbox and Game Pass and not some Sony deal that would’ve probably forced me to get it on PS5.

But funny as someone who still isn’t fond of the PS controller Expedition 33 would be the perfect game for my PS5 due to it being turn based so other than timing dodging and perfect attacks I wouldn’t have to get used to the controller too much.

Yes it’s their first work, always good to see great studios appearing out from nowhere, specially since some of the best studios from 2000-2010 are far from being on their best moment.

Bet the Rebel Wolves studio formed by ex-CDPR developers that recently announced that vampire based WRPG will be one of the next ones to explode. Europe can’t stop winning this gen, and thank god they are on this shape, because don’t make me talk about American studios lately… :persevere:

Far Cry 4 about to get a 4K60 FPS update as it seems. It’s already up on PS5.

I thought it already did.

Only FPS boost on Xbox, it was still 900p or something.

Outer Worlds 2 combat.

I like the way Ubisoft treats its games (Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry anyway) as evergreen catalog titles.

That’s Trueachievements though, I’m basing my post from Xbox’s most played section in the store, today I was very happy to see Expedition jump all the way to 22nd and Oblivion jumped to 5th, so good to see these games are being played by a very good margin of Xbox players, Expedition 33 at least, since Oblivion being a massive hit was never in doubt, good to see them tracking well on TA too, just good to see great games doing well.

I think store rankings are regional, so they might vary a bit. I’ve got Oblivion at 8th and Expedition at 13th. (Germany.)

TA uses an external stat provider, who uses a sample of all Xbox users. (Presumably worldwide?)

Mostly certain that TA only tracks users who have signed into the platform, and have popped a single achievement (or self-identified as playing the game).

I love seeing TA get referenced in the wild though, it often feels like a self-contained garden in the community.

Yeah it’s definitely regional, I’m in the USA so makes sense for Oblivion to be so high here, Bethesda games are huge here.

I wanted to say this but wasn’t sure because it’s been a while since I saw it but yeah I think I read before that TA only tracks registered users in their website.

Guess it really got lost.

The article says:

“So, we’ve been diving into our representative sample of 3.1 million Xbox accounts (Game Trends picks up accounts beyond TrueAchievements) to give you a list of the top 40 most popular Xbox games of the week.”

I don’t know what Game Trends is, but TA only has about a million members so they’re definitely sampling more than just TA users.

I’ve been taking advantage of the significant price drops, mainly for a couch multiplayer titles that are on my wishlist.

In this process I’m heavily going off of the screenshots and reviews to see which games I should be picking up sooner than later.

A few days ago I realized something interesting, for some dumb reason I downloaded a fruit drop phone game which was actually pretty fun but a waste of time. It had ads for other games. It would show a quick ad and then you can play the game. And the mechanics would be sort of fun and entice you to get that other game.

So I was thinking of this: should the Xbox dashboard include ads that take you to the middle of a game?

It’s possible with cloud streaming and quick resume save states. Take Forza Horizon as an example where they have always had great demos that featured the opening race that give you a tour of what to expect. So you see an ad for Forza Horizon 6 and you click on it and it loads up Cloud streaming and you’re taken to the opening race. Once the event is over, the demo closes and you see splash ad filling up your screen giving you the option to pre-order.

I can understand some reasons why this isn’t a good idea. The lack of 4K streaming, input latency affecting the experience, etc. But I think a “Quick Demo” button alongside a download demo button could temper expectation and give people a choice. Having the cloud streaming demo open with a splash screen with a disclaimer about the experience could work too.

Good idea or bad idea?

Sounds a lot closer to the Stadia idea that never took effect. It would be nice to watch a game trailer and immediately be able to play the game demo on that same platform or any device with the AD. Stadia had a presentation like that where you can watch a game AD on YouTube and be able to instantly play the demo or the buy the game unfortunately it never worked. I do wonder won’t it be easier or better to just link a game from it’s launch commercial straight to a platform or the cloud.

Only 2 months. I hope it’s good as Game Pass is blowing up and Ninja Gaiden 4 could be around that time as well.
