XboxEra Community Hangout |OT13| The Bakers Dozen

Im in two minds, part of me wishes Sony had that dog in them to stick with it. But really not sure if even MS could turn this one around.

Its just weird getting a substantial state of decay patch, only to hear Concord is shuttered after a week?

The reaction to this on Era is tickling me. ā€œI hope they don’t do what Xbox is doing!?!?!!??ā€

If I had to guess, I would say that it’s Helldivers 2 going to Xbox and/or Media Molecule’s next game releasing on Switch 2 as I do expect it to be a kids game like Little Big Planet or something like that.

There’s only one of these 3 games people can play with their monthly subscription…

I don’t think he’s aware of that and that is telling a lot about him.

It was wild listening to people I respect say Concord flopping will change Microsofts investment strategy and I just…

  1. They already created GamePass to have a middleground between pure F2P and $40
  2. They already have a dedicated GamePass base that plays new games than COD and Fortnite as a result
  3. They already shifted to GAAS niches outside of shooters to great success (MSFS, SOT, Age, Grounded)
  4. They already put a couple service games on multiple platforms to ensure they have even more investment
  5. They already have reportedly pivoted to smaller quicker bets. And already were doing that.

I swear people just lose all context and rationality when they talk about platforms.

Too much to unpack with this one. Waaay too much so I’ll just give it a… giphy

Good points.

People don’t talk about it much but MS/Xbox are doing GAAS games the right way. You have to give a lot of content and updates for free first and then put out some paid content, hoping for the most dedicated fans to buy some of it.

Yeah, I think they can’t pin Sony’s live service problems onto Microsoft. I think Microsoft had it’s growing pains and found a formula that has worked well for them.

Sony has just started this path, but even something as successful as Helldivers has a lot of community issues. Some of my friends that played it said post launch support has been awful and they keep on nerfiing weapons that results in the game not being enjoyable

The copium is flowing freely. ā€œThe game is perfect, they just have to relaunch it with new marketing so everyone will find out how great it is! No Man’s Sky and Fallout 76 turned around rough launches, how hard can it be?ā€

I’ll add an appropriate quotation later, but I would also assume Sony wants to clear the air so the Concord situation doesn’t leak to the PS5 Pro launch and of Astrobot. Once Astrobot launches, everyone will forget Concord real quick.

I think it might be the biggest bomb of all time when you take in account that it took 8 years to make, Sony (Jim Ryan) purchased it after playtesting it, spent marketing, launched game and pulled after 2 weeks, and the list can go on. I feel for the devs, but the way the media is ignoring a lot of this seems crazy after media and fans were having a go at stuff like Redfall, Avengers, Suicide Squad, Anthem, and the list goes on. None of those games bombed as hard as this, but maybe they can salvage some of this by reusing the assets for something else, but it doesn’t look pretty

Yeah I think it’s reasonable to call this the biggest bomb of all time in terms of comparing the time and money spent on development vs. a CCU high of 600 players and a lifespan of 10 days. There has never been such a high profile AAA first party title that’s done this unimaginably poorly.

I mean though, who could have guessed that gamers didn’t want to play an 8-years-late Overwatch clone with beloved characters such as ā€œfat guy in a raincoatā€ and ā€œflesh colored spacesuit personā€. Definitely no way they could have predicted this.

Yeah, it is without doubt the biggest bomb in gaming. The game is not surviving even if they release as F2P.

The blame lies solely with Sony, they forced their studios who make traditional AAA games to make GAAS, bought studios to make up numbers because they somehow had to respond to Microsoft’s spending otherwise the optics of having half the number of studios would look bad.

They scraped their old model of acquisitions where the studios had to prove themselves before acquiring. They mandated live service games, the greedy kind where only mass success matters. They weren’t interested in their studios making pseudo live service games like SoT or AoE, where monetisation is not the only thing that matters.

They want the next CoD, Valorant or Overwatch. Notice how every single one of the unveiled games is a shooter. With only Horizon being an MMO. The likelihood of getting a game of the level is almost none, so expect a lot more duds. Fairgames is probably the next and reports around Marathon don’t sound good either.

Always funny to notice how much crap was thrown at Arkane but also at Xbox, but when it comes to Concord, Sony is taking very little heat from the media, even the big engagement farming accounts like Dexerto, Discussing Film conveniently forget to mention Sony/PlayStation. You could bet your bottom dollar they would have loved to mention Xbox to drive more hate and clicks.

I don’t know that is the biggest bomb of all time that sounds a bit too farfetched for one thing it did at least release and they didn’t exactly say they were scraping it. The characters looked ok to me in the animated trailers. Perhaps if they used that art style and made it like Hi-fi-rush or maybe as Jaffe said someone suggested, making the cast based on PlayStation characters that is assuming they rework the game as free to play. It certainly has gotten popular enough even if it is negative.

It’s the same spiel as with the leaks. As soon as Insomniac was the victim it was all about kumbaya and no one should support that yada yada.

What else is new lol

I can’t imagine how demoralizing it must feel to work on a game for 8 years only for it to shut down in less than a month…

I know the game didn’t resonate with most people but I thought the controller looked cool at least.

And also, the whiplash from hearing the Capcom games hitting Xbox to the news of Concord being shut down right after… Like geez man lol.

Geez that controller reminds me of the some of the old toys I had in the 90’s like G.I Joe .

It actually might be a day one for me. All the footage so far is great. And I really dig the locations in the latest video.
