Why people love Steam?
Exhibit A:
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is probably my biggest surprise in gaming since Divinity: OS 1 over 10 years ago, what a gem this game is wow.
They built the best mix of world + characters i can remember, it’s a great mix of Morrowind + Oblivion/Skryim + The Witcher. After almost 15 years since Skyrim i’ve been missing some exploration RPG, BG3 is awesome, so is Cyberpunk, but exploration in these games is almost non existing, but boy this KCD2 delivers hard there too.
And the dialogues here are so good, the world, characters, the… reactivity in the game is crazy, even side quests are great, i’ll show an example here that surprised me, it’s a non important side quest but if you are going to play better don’t read just to have the chance to find it by yourself (not easy as it’s the kind of game where each person will miss out a lot of stuff unless you play with a guide but…)
There’s a side quest about a farmer that was getting his sheeps killed by wolves, so he asked me to take a dumb sheep he had and use it as a bait, i had to take the dumb sheep “Ignatius” to hill where wolves hunt and leave a carrot in the ground and hide until the wolves come and kill the sheep, and then kill the wolves myself
By mistake i did put the carrot in the ground but i didn’t realize Ignatius wasn’t following me, then i just lost the carrot and couldn’t finish the quest the way i was supposed to, but i talked with the farmer and had the option to lie to him and tell him the wolves were dead, so i got my bounty. That was cool but i wondered if it’d be the end or if i’d get more news from that side quest.
Then days after, asking for rumors in a Tabern in a village near the farm, i was told this farmer had some of his sheeps killed by wolves, so he told me i was a lier and that i had to kill the wolves and bring him a proof this time to make sure (their ears), i thougth that was cool and definitely the end of the story.
But some days after that, just exploring, i found another farmer far from that first place that told me he got scammed buying a sheep that turned out to be very dumb and got lost, that seemed familiar to me, and yes, when i went for it, it was my boy Ignatius again
And there’s several examples like this one, it’s crazy the amount of quests and sidequests branching this game had, it makes the game feel so immersive…

So…about that narrative…

It’s impossible to tell based on this, but I do think it will be a longer game than ToW. I know some really believe it will be the same, I don’t. But we will see, and it’s all good.

Hoping these locations are dense and fun to explore, environmental storytelling etc.

The Year of Koei in progress.
I don’t think Relic will work on AOE anymore.
Xbox should have buy them years ago.
Now they are less 100 developers, and they are focusing on indie (with new RELIC Lab projects), Company of Heroes and Dawn of War.
This Is the main problem when you (Xbox) externalize the development of one of your IP to a third party Studio.
I don’t know Who Will develope future AOE titles. Forgotten empires, tantalus and Capture Age are too small teams.
Maybe Creative Assembly?
There are dozens of developers that make these kinds of games. Relic and Creative Assembly are just the big names, there is no shortage of studios who can work on AOE and I don’t think they need to acquire a studio when the talent pool that makes real time strategy games are vast.
The Outer Worlds had lots of very obvious building blocks the bases, settlements and world were made of. Avowed looks more natural and diverse in this regard.
Tbf they also integrated that to the world building and it really does add to the world when you realize who cookie cutter everything is, being the same hab units just with facades

Wow, I didn’t think Take-Two would ever overtake EA in market value.
To think EA was going to acquire them a few years ago!
Some surprise indie Game Pass titles?
Oh wow, I didnt realize Crysis 4 was off the table. Horrible to hear for the devs.
