This remake of “Jazzy 99” with Infinite rapping on it made me nostalgic , from the time I used to rock Third Strike on my Dreamcast way back.

Truly one of the greatest fighting games ever made that didn’t get a lot of love when it first came out. It was far better received than SF3 vanilla, but the overall cold reception to SF3 compared to it’s predecessor had Capcom afraid to make fighting games for a good while and pretty much dropped 2D spritework forever sadly. Anyone going on about how these kinds of games “don’t matter” can look at how this is one of if not the biggest game at Evo decades after it first dropped in arcades.
The history is quite interesting and a bit crazy. It’s even funnier considering the movie game was going to be the third game. On top of that, Capcom was in the old phase of sequel equal complete refresh like not one bit reference to the predecessor. No Ryu and Ken. It’s like MK with no Scorpion and Sub-Zero. But yeah, the timing was against them when 3D became the hot stuff.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no I think. I remember in KOF, the whole spirit explosion worldwide is their excuse to bring back faves since the saga based around Ash.
I guess as long the character isn’t part of the story mode, bring them back to pad the roster and keep their fans happy. It shouldn’t really be an issue that needs explaining.
Watching EVO right now, and while it’s no different from last year, the amount of advertisement for Sony products and games is insane! Sony bought EVO and now they use it as a way to push their products unto the gaming scene, with no shame at all even though fighting games should be neutral.
Now, Microsoft bought ABK and they now own Call of Duty League, the Overwatch Challengers (Since Overwatch League is now gone), Hearthstone tournaments, World of Warcraft Mythic Dungeon tournaments and Arena tournaments. They also own Halo and Gears of course, but I mean, I watch some Call of Duty League from time to time, and you wouldn’t even know it’s owned by Microsoft! Why am I not seeing Game Pass plastered all over the place, Elite controller product placement (although they are already sponsored by Scuf),MS Headsets and whatnot being sold to the huge CDL viewership that comes back week after week but also that goes in person at all the weekend events?
I mean, Sony does it to an insane level with EVO and I’m sure it’s paying off, MS should be pushing the same and the games they own pull in huge numbers, I’m sure it’d be worth their while!
Most of those are on PC/M+KB so theres not a ton of stuff to promote. Theres definitely some opportunity.
I think Xbox just doesn’t really care about branding. Not sure why, might be they don’t want to get blowback. Sony if anything seems weirdly overprotective, imo.
ETA: could also be they dont want to tarnish other brands with their own. E.g., don’t remind Blizzard fans they are under Microsoft.
Honestly, between Valorant (already consistently on top 25 selling games on Playstation), Marvel Rivals about to run a big beta, and Overwatch 2 launching a new season with a very well-received hero 2 days before Concord…
Yeah, they are walking into an ambush of every F2P hero shooter
