100%, I hope it happens one day.

I’ll probably shed a tear or two in 2040 when Fallout 5 is announced.

I was pretty pissed about Tango’s closing because I felt that Xbox had something special in Hi Fi Rush and it sucks what happened to them and Arkane. That said what annoys me is how since it’s launch many of the same people who would go out of their way to trash Redfall as the worst thing ever created , are all up in arms about the developer being closed. Going as far as to bring it up during their coverage of the game showcase as an excuse to shit on it. (Had to unsub from one gaming Youtuber over that) Disingenuous bs like that tends to annoy me the most. Especially since they won’t keep that energy for the Sony showcase despite them also laying off workers and shutting down developers.

That Todd and Matty interview was fantastic.

Hope they link up in the future for another one.

It was good, i also thought of you Viv when they talked about mod pricing. Seems like they werent happy with how they handled that.

They would have reps there im sure but no idea when it comes to that stuff. I feel like they should though for sure, seems like a win win

Yeah, I gave this a watch and it was nice to finally see someone in the gaming media push back against those complaints. As she said, if they gave release dates and missed them, those same people would be complaining just as hard.

This seems like a TB game even I can enjoy. It seems we can still move or at least have way more control over things compared to something like Octopath or any TB (J) RPG.

Todd Howard might be the Western GOAT of game directors. Not to make it a pissing contest, but he doesn’t get talked about in the same regard as, say, a Kojima, which is crazy to me. The guys still has TES VI, Fallout 5 and Indiana Jones to add on to his CV.

Todd definitely does get talked about a lot, although I feel like Japanese directors in general tend to get more focus than western ones whether it’s the Kojima’s, Miyazaki, Miyamoto etc

In terms of notoriety, he’d definitely up there, iv always sort of viewed him as the western Kojima in terms of someone who has made high quality games for so long, respected and gets meme’d constantly :valle:

I have noticed this too, it does seem that there’s often more emphasis on Japanese directors.

Whether that’s because Japanese games don’t typically sell as well as western games (CoD, GTA, Madden etc) I don’t know.

There’s many fantastic western directors that never get mentioned, some of which were genre defining.

Discourse about ā€˜auteurs’ in gaming often relies on assumptions that posit a kind of ā€˜Western behemoth grey’ vs ā€˜Japanese arty craziness’, I think - see different responses to ā€˜gacha’ and ā€˜microtransactions’ also, feel like the two concepts inhabit slightly different states for many gamers, even though they’re fundamentally exploitative alike. It definitely feels like a specifically idea-of-Japan thing many gamers have: Japanese producers and video game music composers become names far more than others, and that’s not because Japan magically only makes the only original, interesting and powerful games around. Japanese gaming is, as with any other market, full of shite too (don’t get me started on how endlessly fucking trite so many JRPG stories are, how utterly rote the characters often are, etc).

It helps also that Kojima and Miyazaki games have been really very popular recently, of course. A bit chicken and egg, in the sense they make good, interesting games that people enjoy, so of course revered/famous. But also noticeably different responses to many Western devs who also make good, interesting games… There are some smaller profile devs - Phil Fish, the Undertale guy etc - who get noticed, but few who get the same level of adulation.

So like is this going to be the new SteamDB as in determine the faith of a game despite multiple platforms?

Not gonna, genuinely thought Monster Hunter Wilds would be at the top 5 at least alongside COD and Doom. Although am more surprised that the actual exclusives Gears of war e-day and Avowed are within the top five. Mostly towards the latter.

Yay, now we’re going to see people bandy about IGN Wishlists for their bullshit console wars nonsense.

It is exactly what IGN wanted, getting them clicks!

Absolutely, another one is Arnt Jensen from Playdead, which is interesting when you consider the behemoth vs arty argument you mentioned.

I think we have already started to see more examples of both smaller and larger artistic games from the west. One thing I really like about Xbox is how they’ve always showcased some of the more ā€˜unusual’ games out there whether they are a success or not.

Winter Burrow being a recent example from their latest showcase.
