Yep lol, not much we can do about the places that have our details - just be as aware as we can, I do like the introduction of 3D Secure and “approve on your banking app” for new payments and that many services now alert you when there’s a login from a new location or device.
And yowsers that’s scary with how many known vulnerabilities are around lol, although it tracks - some parts of Windows are from the old NT days and MS have just told us they’re beginning to kill NTLM as they know of vulnerabilities but it’s ancient and the fallback in so many of their own apps that it’s taking a while (and we need to similarly adjust).
I’ve also found code with comments dating from the late 80s in financial software for law firms (even the new browser version retains some of it and has a custom data layer that still allows SQL injection attacks via some notes fields) and some of the “low code” suppliers that have offered us stuff are open to the most basic SQL injection attack as it builds inline SQL rather than parameterised (we sent them packing thankfully - after proving to them how much damage a user with a little knowledge could do to their database!).
While for big companies running old codebases and having to be backwards compatible, that number of vulnerabilities while scary is at least understandable, those “low code” providers were worrying as that’s all newly-built stuff with developers who should have had cybersecurity as part of their training
With Xbox compared to Sony, I’m slightly reassured by the fact us gamers are a small, insignificant group to hack / steal from if you’d got access to Microsoft’s systems - there are much bigger, wealthier and more interesting organisations to target I imagine - while other gaming companies the gamer accounts would be the primary target alongside unannounced games and films, so I’m much more careful about my PS account.
As for the Netflix pirate, it was not exactly an expert “hacker” lol - they used their forename / nickname as the new profile, which was unique enough I could find their public Facebook profile in Argentina where they were posting about how much they were loving Wednesday
I considered reporting it then thought “my own stupid fault for leaving an old password on the account” and hoped she’d managed to watch the entire series before I booted her out lol, given the economic situation there…
Yesterday there was a LiS livestream with dev and voice actor interviews but also new gameplay. This has come a long way in terms of facial expressions. Looks great!
Yes, @Doncabesa is completely right; he is extremely off with his takes. He is one that constantly goes to the Starfield-is-crap mines for engagement, and to top it all off, he is a plagiarist.
But would he see a PS5 version only as more players? If anything From would only do the remake if they can bring it to PC and maybe Xbox(Mostly pc imo).
Jeff Grubb has stated it pretty plainly, FROM’s time is too valuable for them to ever want to work on an exclusive again and the way Bloodborne was made for the PS4 requires them to help port it.
Yeah, Grubb will do that for you: breaking hearts and dreams one day at a time. But seriously, From is too big to be doing single platform these days. Maybe there was a shot if Elden Ring didn’t explode and somehow went into Wii U disaster level, but yeah, don’t expect them to leave a minute to do other work.
Yep. They picked the exact timeframe to report on that would maximize Astro Bot’s number and minimize the other games. Almost like they had a specific outcome in mind…
Even so, the other 90% of the top 10 is made up of the Xbox showcase.
Days after the showcase, I ran across several articles from major news outlets and others questioning the sustainability of gamepass or stating that gamepass was still a big risk. I mean, they’ve been writing those articles for 5+ years now, and you have the head of Xbox literally coming out and saying the service is profitable numerous times over those 5+ years, but they refuse to believe it for whatever reason.
Also, people keep bringing up how putting CoD in Gamepass is going to lose them money. The reality is that they’ve never gotten the revenue from CoD beyond their 12-15% cut, so everything will be a net positive for them now that they get the 70% cut from PS, PC, Xbox, mobile and all the new revenue they’ll now get from Nintendo. And that doesn’t even factor in all the micro transactions they’ll now get, the boost to gamepass subs they’ll most likely get and any other added benefits my feeble brain is unable to think of at this moment.
I honestly don’t know why so many poeple are so concerned about Gamepass anyway. As a consumer, I think it’s great, so why should I or anyone else for that matter give a flying shit whether it’s good for MS/Xbox or not? If it turns out it is indeed unsustainable, they’ll just go back to the way things have always been, so nothing is lost. It just feels so forced and ridiculous.
