Not even in the same league. Doesn’t look bad, looks cute and very stylish, has a lot of charm for sure, but gameplay wise it doesn’t seem to come close to a Mario game yet, those are in a league of their own.
True, but clearly these folks didn’t mean that.
Exactly. Not even close.
100%
Crash Bandicoot was the closest PS got to Mario and we know what happened there .
I’d say Little Big Planet is closer to a Mario game than Astro.
Really it’s crazy how many good platformer IP’s Xbox own now: Banjo, Crash Bandicoot, Psychonauts, Ori & Spyro etc.
PS fanboys sure like the “X game/series that set new standards for the genre”-killers in their list wars…so far it didn’t work out for them but they are still into it apparently.
And don’t get me wrong Astrobot looks cool and it will probably be a great game since it’s being made by the ashes of the very talented Sony Japan Studio but it’s funny seeing the PS fanboys being hyped about a “kiddie” game with “simplistic” graphics that could easily run on a Switch, they shit on Nintendo on every chance they get but apparently now it’s all about the “variety, creativity and fun”! lol
I dunno about LBP…it always played like shit, controls/gameplay feel was always laggy and clunky - it never felt right. Crash games were pretty good but always overrated by the PS fanbase, Crash 4 which is by far the best game in the series and a legit amazing 3D platformer was ignored by them due to being a multiplatform release.
It’s awesome that MS owns all those IP’s yeah but let’s hope that they will do something with them, at least we know that T4B is working with Xbox on a platformer (the rumored Spyro game) so at least there’s something to look forward to from Xbox in the genre.
Yeah I know what you mean, I’m not sure if you’ve played Sackboy: A Big Adventure but that was really well done IMO. It’s still part of the LBP universe but they refined it more.
Yep I’m looking forward to seeing what T4B does, I still think it’s a shame they are now external after waiting so long for a family friendly studio but that’s another debate.
Hopefully the other IP’s get revisited soon too.

Tax must have been written off.
Has anyone here played the two Dead Island 2 expansions? If yes, how are they?
I haven’t played Sackboy since I sold my PS4 months before the release of the game but it did look much better than the 2D ones to me too. From the LBP series I’ve played the first two games and thought that were both underwhelming…I bought the first one at launch for 70 euros back then and boy that was a waste of money.
I very rarely regret game purchases but LBP1 and Killzone 2 (paid 70 euros for this sluggish playing crap too) are two purchases that I still regret. Those two games were an expensive lesson for me to not believe the hype for any PS 1st party game, I still remember the 10/10 that Edge gave to LBP…Edge pls. -_-
Yeah, I typically now only get excited by Naughty Dog and Insomniac games, however TLOU2 was a bit disappointing for me after the 1st.
The Spidey games are also becoming a bit repetitive for me now, I’m hoping Wolverine doesn’t disappoint though.
The others I could easily live without (or just wait for their PC release which I have been doing).
Got scammed today. Ordered a G8 mobile controller and recieved a cheap night lamp.
Hope amazon returns and refunds all things quickly.

I think you’re going to have to spend million just to satisfy the “need ad” fans.
I would say Astro has the opposite of what you say here lol. I think gameplay wise it’s as close as you can get to a Mario Odyssey/3D World type experience from the controls to the mechanics/buffet of gameplay.
Visually I think it’s gaudy and the premise and themes are a huge turn off.
I know you already expanded on this by saying A Big Adventure was really well done, which it was, but it’s still no Mario. It was a good reworking of the LBP feel/formula by Sumo, though. Astro feels much tighter to control. Pretty top tier as far as platformers go. OG LBP was almost as far as you could get from Mario with floaty controls and a very fixed design language (until they went off the rails with all the UGC game-within-a-game stuff). Still, I loved LBP’s controls and adored LBP 1-2. Then LBP 3 glitched on me and created a game breaking bug so I never finished it :\
Looking at the trailer right now I’d say the move set and complexity of what could be achieved in Super Mario 64 is still ahead of what I am seeing in Astro and that’s not counting stuff that was in Super Mario Sunshine and Odyssey as well. Astro is trying to match the gameplay level of what Nintendo achieved 15-20 years ago. Heck, Mario 64 is a 1996 game lol and most platformers still don’t match its gameplay to this day.
AstroBot can be Sony’s Mario when it puts up Mario sales numbers. If we’re strictly talking about quality of the games, I’m taking Psychonauts over any of them lol.
As much as I like developers doing what they want, I wouldn’t mind if Double Fine nudged towards Psychonauts 3 lol.
They should do
Anytime iv had to return anything they are super quick
