Well if you want to believe rumours or believe the Series X Cylinder was cancelled based on what Phil said, that roadmap is no longer relevant

Knack is a meme.
But seriously, itâs more on Sony not knowing how to properly orient smaller games imo. And I donât disagree that a lot of gamers ⢠who say they want new and different stuff are liars.
It should say âSony gamersâ, other platforms support smaller titles just fine.
I played and completed Knack (6.0/10) and Knack 2 (7.5/10) with the sequel being really good. Always wanted a third game since the story isnât truly wrapped up. I bought and played Sackboy and while itâs good, way too easy and kiddie for me so I dropped it after a few hours. Never had any interest in Concrete Genie. Bought Gravity Rush Remastered and liked it but dropped it after a few hours due to it making me lightheaded due to the flying around and camera. You can see that itâs a good game though. GR 2 is said to be even better.
Besides those few, I also bought Shadow of the Beast (Genesis remake), Matterfall, Dead Nation, Alienation, Nex Machina, Infamous First Light and Until Dawn which I put in the smaller AA category.
So some PlayStation fans such as myself do buy the smaller AA level games. Iâm into AAA and AA games. The games I donât play are the Indies that are retro 8/16 bit. Those days are long gone for me. lol
Of course now, Sony doesnât do these games anymore and when you realize that 75% of the install base donât buy their major first party games, why would this same group buy the smaller games? So while I would like Sony to do these smaller AA level games, I understand why they donât.
We built differently. I know PS is known for marketing and all, but they sure love to see these small titles sink or swim scenario and even if they swim at times, they blindsided with movie production game.
For me, its about Sony developing smaller budget titles, such as SpiderMan 1 instead of Spiderman 2. The first has a third of the budget of the second one. The smaller budget is still HUGE being over 100 Million.
They hardly marketed a lot of those kinds of games. Thereâs a video from when Gravity Rush 2 was still coming out specifically calling out that Sony is barely acknowledging itâs existence (alongside other smaller exclusives they had at the time like Yakuza or Persona). They were contributing to their own âAA sucks only AAA mattersâ messaging while still making those games at the time which seems to suggest conflict with how higher ups wanted to steer PS but remnants of âthe pastâ still being there.
Today is Bobbyâs last day, a new era begins
Game Pass also benefits them massively too
Removes the stigma of it being âindieâ or âsmallâ, if itâs in your sub might as well give it a try
I think you swapped more than just a game. Lol.
This studio, man.

The sad thing is, this is actually accurate. Well, maybe a little exaggerated, but Destiny 2 life would be more accurate. Still, itâs damning after knowing the story.
Thatâs pretty much it and it could be debated how much of this narrative was being driven from Sony or rather it was Sony responding to the narrative they were helping to create in the gaming media.
We got to the point where the gaming media were wholly focused on AAA titles and would disregard these smaller efforts. Much of that followed the marketing efforts of Sony, starting with how things were presented at E3 or other presentations. But then Sony saw what the media was talking about and started focusing more on that.
Itâs a vicious cycle that begs the chicken and the egg problem. Thereâs a strong argument that Sony started this problem with Sony showcasing their premier titles and needing to do so to contrast themselves against the Xbox that didnât have such titles.
But the gaming media began getting this one-sided in their coverage began in the PlayStation days when Sony was competing with Nintendo and Sega with a varied lineup that spanned from experimental titles to sports titles. So I see that argument too.
Whatever the reason is, weâre in this dilemma now where Sony will show cool experimental and smaller titles in their State of Play showcase and theyâll get ripped to shreds for it.
Which is fine, that reaction in the YouTube comment section shouldnât reflect reality but it seems like the sales follow that sort of rhetoric.
Nintendo did really well this year while Square Enix and Koei Tecmo struggled

Shame about Koei Tecmo because thinking about it I bought a lot of things they released this year:
- Wo Long Season Pass
- Atelier Ryza 3
- Atelier Marie Remake
- Fate Samurai/Remnant
My guesses are Wild Hearts did really bad and that the Atelier gacha game that somewhat recently released isnât doing good.
