Zenimax were definitely going through an era of trying to make more GaaS type stuff work but I doubt it will be that way going forward now that they are under Xbox

I certainly don’t want these top tier studios stuck making licensed crap just because it’s a better than something like Youngblood

Yeah, as someone who actually likes licensed games, bring 'em on.

It’s always hard to tell because it’s entirely possible some developers DID simply want to make these games - but between Redfall, Fallout 76 and Wolfenstein Youngblood there was a pretty distinct trend of traditionally single player developers rushing out more “financially promising” games.

Personally I have mixed feelings of ID working on a Mandalorian game. I want to see developers make the games they want to make (including if they want to work on licensed projects), and I’m all for licensed content making up a part of the diverse landscape of Xbox gaming. A Star Wars game would certainly be a great addition to that.

But also, that would mark potentially 3 Bethesda studios who are now wrapped up in licensed projects and so far that seems to have meant much longer than average development cycles for these studios. I’d maybe rather see a little more balance between new IP (ish) and existing IP for Bethesda.

The subreddit for The Finals has unfortunately gone into the gutter recently with PC players complaining about aim assist on controller nonstop. It’s fine to feel one way or the other about the issue, but it has become very toxic there. This happens in a lot of gaming subs though like the one for Starfield.

A lot of games were going for GaaS. Remember Avowed was going to be multiplayer co-op game in blueprint, until they were bought, so they went into their style again. Bethesda/Zenimax was going for those and maybe Starfield and others would still be on hold or slow progress or release in worse state than Cyberpunk.

Xbox did more help than damage so far. Unlike Embracer with many studios. I just saw a video about how Free Radical had the worst luck when it comes to holding a popular franchise TimeSplitters. It was like a dream that can come true one day, but in the end, it’s end of the line. Tragic.

I hope what special Nick said about the god of war Triliogy remake/remaster is real. I love those games and I hope they include accension

Yeah. Remakestation featuring Marvel keeps on giving.

Yeah, that one is a huge bummer. Not only cause I wish it was a more positive place to hang out and read/write about Starfield, but because I know Bethesda pays attention to it. Todd Howard wrote a long message specifically for them when the game launched.

And before launch it was a fun place to visit, with lots of speculation and analysis of screenshots and trailers and concept art. But now it’s a toxic cesspool with people either outright misrepresenting aspects of the game, or blowing things way out of proportion à la invisible wall-gate.

So it just sucks to read, and it sucks that that place is a big part of Bethesda’s exposure to the “fandom.” I hope and think they’re well aware that there are hundreds of thousands of us who adore the game, those player stats they released recently is undeniable proof of that. But still, I’m sure it’s not fun for a developer to see a once positive and encouraging corner of the internet do a complete 180.

I had only heard a Mando game is in the works.

Not much beyond that

what is this about

I don’t understand the question…

@vrg mentioned how the subreddit for The Finals had “gone into the gutters” and said it unfortunately is common with gaming subreddits to do that, and mentioned Starfield as another example.

As I am a big Starfield fan, and was following that sub before launch, I had witnessed it first-hand and felt it was very unfortunate. And so I replied with my thoughts on that.

I can extrapolate further, but I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking, but if you clarify I’d be happy to reply.

edit: It occurs to me that someone unfamiliar with Reddit may well have no idea what we’re on about. Reddit is basically a massive collection of forums, not entirely dissimilar to this one but at the same time quite different. Each forum on Reddit is referred to as a subreddit or “sub” for short. The URL for the Starfield subreddit is reddit.com/r/starfield although personally I prefer to use the old Reddit design, which is available at old.reddit.com/r/starfield.

Yeah I also remember the Starfield sub being super chill before launch. I no longer comment on reddit anymore because of how negative people can be there, but I still lurk a bunch of gaming subs (particularly games, gamingleaksandrumours and xboxseriesx).

I noticed even the Series X subreddit gets really bad at times. I really don’t understand how a sub for fans of that game/console is always filled with constant negativity on it. Don’t know if it’s the same with Sony and Nintendo subs.

SeriesX sub was an absolute hellhole around 2020 but it’s been better moderated now. I think it’s just Reddit overall, things always tend to go stupid unless moderation is on the clock lol

Xbox provided this? Talk about doing Meta’s job at marketing. But seriously, at least Xbox isn’t losing out financially with VR marketing.

I’d imagine Meta provided it, but he was sent one because of his relationship with Xbox PR

I bought a physical copy of Armored Core 6 and it only has 3gb of data on the disc and it’s a 52gb download, that kinda stinks.
