XboxEra Community Hangout |OT11| It Goes To 11!

We’re already in a highly dangerous period of misinformation. It is key to alert users to that and to do so in an automated way. It will save lives. There are ways to qualify it too. Such as labeling it with an indicator that AI has determined the information may be unfactual and having it highlight the disputed information. It Durant need to be a binary indication.

There are ways to ensure that the basis for factual is transparent and open source.

No they’re not. Lol.

If From Software is working on a Sony exclusive, I would imagine that it would be Bloodborne 2 especially with the rumors of there being a movie in the works.

This is my current understanding of how the three consoles handle advertising:

Xbox has both full-screen start-up ads for first party games and also dedicated ad space on the first page of the dashboard.

Switch has three eShop ads on the lock screen.

PlayStation will on rare occasion include a tile ad on the row of recently played games. I game-share on PS, so when I saw a tile for Modern Warfare 2 last year, I assumed my game share partner bought it. Was disappointed when pressing the tile brought up an offer to buy the game.

I don’t game much at all on PS, so please tell me if I’m missing something. Also how do Steam and Epic handle ads? I’m not a PC guy, so idk.

What kind of advertising do you prefer personally if you had to receive ads? The Switch ads seem the least annoying to me. It’s the same model on Kindle. I don’t like how PS ads “pretend” to be one of your recently played games.

Do we know who owns the Bloodborne IP?

I don’t mind the Xbox pop up ads when it’s a game pass release or stream (hell, do it for huge day 1 3rd party GP releases if they want). I only minded a bit on CoD because it wasn’t GP, but that will be an exception. (Also it’s the only pop up ad I -didn’t- get, which is a bit weird because I did play MW2 and finished the campaign in it).

I only have a PS4 but they have put Destiny or Genshin Impact tiles in my game library before which I found much more annoying than an Xbox pop up ad, it’s a few buttons to delete the tiles and I find them “sneaking” them in there quite intrusive.

I like how non-ad focused the Switch UI is in general, it’s basically just a “My games and Apps” section with some shortcuts underneath. Doesn’t work on Xbox/PS though which are trying to be more multimedia like. IIRC Nintendo used to to that “intrusive” thing PS does on the Wii U and “sneak” some tiles into your game library, glad Switch doesn’t do that.

Steam gives a pop up “catalog” thing when you launch it with featured games, I believe you can turn this off and also set Steam to just immediately place you in your library instead of the store.

Yeah placing ads as fake tiles also rubs me the wrong way.

Xbox start-up ads don’t bother me too much either because it notifies me if a game came out. Although, an option to opt out of start-up ads would be appreciated.

Remember the last time rumors spread on OtherEra that Abandoned was a Kojima horror game in disguise. We all know how that fantasy turned out.
