XboxEra Community Hangout |OT11| It Goes To 11!

Did the PS4 Pro really do much to benefit anything though? I think the Xbox One X was a much bigger deal in the Xbox community because Xbox was so far behind on power in the first place.

This time it should do more for PS though, seeing as even though it’s much closer this gen, Xbox is considered the most powerful.

Being able to say Best on PS without hesitation is probably not a bad thing. All the DF videos etc. It will also make the Series S look even worse.

Not in my city, not sure we ever had that store here. But stores like Game Mania for example I fully expect them to have trade ins.

I’d love to be surprised where Phil next E3 comes out and says they ARE coming with a proper mid-gen refresh console, and that would likely be out in 2025, but I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m fully gonna expect the rumored PS5 Pro to be the better system for the rest of the generation.

I’m sure casual Xbox gamers will be fine with that, but as a Xbox gamer that always wants their best it would be very disappointing. And that would mean I’m going to have to cope with a controller whose battery drains way too fast, MEH!

For alot of the last 3 years, the only xbox console that was gettable for alot of countries was the weakest next gen console on the market. PS5 is also starting to run away with this gen, not sure why Sony wants to release the Pro now that Xbox isn’t but meh. Maybe their data says otherwise.

Ah, afaik there’s no trade-in places here anymore. Maybe some of the bigger chains will have something… I’d trade in my PS5 for a Pro then. However… that would also mean I would move my third party gaming to PS for the most part.

I would prefer none of them did a midgen-upgrade, but if one do the other should as well.

I would think it is for the brand.

Yeah you’re probably right. I’m not complaining though, if I can play these next gen games at 4K 60 fps for under $1K, I’ll take it lol.

If the Pro PS5 is going to be as expensive as people expect then I don’t think a response is needed like some people think

X will no longer be ā€œthe most powerful consoleā€ but have they really used that marketing since the first year it was out? I dont think iv seen this in ages, plus they will no longer be the most powerful but if only a small portion of people are going to end up buying the Pro anyway, I’m not sure what exactly that’s going to change

Series X Cylinder lol or whatever they do for next year will be just to keep production costs down and the keep momentum up half way through the gen

Maybe I’m wrong and look at this differently than others because personally, I never bought my Xbox because of performance or multiplats, I bought it because of exclusives and Game Pass so a multiplat performing better on PS is irrelevant to me

Oh yes, for sure! I’d rather they stick to what they got now, but as you said, if one does it, the other should as well. Some people would say just stick with Xbox, but it’s the knowing that games are that much better on the other. I guess it’s fomo?

On the other hand, I sat last gen out with Xbox all the way, the first years I stuck with Xbox One, knowing full well the higher resolution on PS4, even when that Pro console came out. But if this time around GTA 6, Witcher 4 etc are significantly better on PS5 Pro, I can’t ignore it.

People have said before how these things are decided at least a year or more in advance, and since nothing leaked…i can’t see Xbox changing their mind. Especially after what Phil Spencer said.

I dunno, i don’t think it’ll make much of a change in the perception of PS5 (not like it needs it) and only the most hardcore care about DF videos. I think it’ll be a nice machine for the hardcore but won’t result in a further shift for the brand in any direction.

I know they aren’t related and they could have done both, but I think the biggest thing that Xbox can do for the brand is solve their software problem. That’ll be what moves the needle on brand perception, not having the most powerful hardware.

I mean it’s not FOMO. People talk about how we should get used to big games this gen running at 30 fps again. Well, if you can run those games in 60 on the PlayStation… Kinda hard to argue with.

At this point I am pretty confident that it’s not going to happen. If I were you I’d buy a PS5 pro (especially since you don’t already have a PS5) and play some of those games there.

I went with PC, which I know is not for everyone.

Not exactly Game Pass drop but it will do for now.

I think both brands need both things.

As for DF videos, sure only the hardcore actually watches and cares. But it spreads from there. Things like that is where the general perception is created.

I’m also pretty sure that ā€œPlayStation - The Worlds Most Powerful Consoleā€ plastered all over the world, as they do, will have an impact. Even if that impact in many places is to maintain the status quo by making sure Xbox is kept down.

I dont think much of a change in perception is going to occur as a result of DF videos 4 years into the generation. I think a very small subset of the market is worried about which console is most powerful and the strength of the PlayStation brand is the fact that it’s where you need to go to play all (most) of the games.

I’m not putting as much weight into DF videos as you seem to think. That was one example of how the narrative is spread. The hardcore does influence the general audience though was my point.

It’s not about being worried either. I do think it’s weird if Xbox let’s PlayStation go unchallenged in the power narrative though. A Pro console doesn’t have to be sold at a loss or anything, it’s existance and catering to the hardcore market is enough.

I think there are a couple of reasons Xbox might not want to do a Pro, a major one is they already have two SKUs on the market and having 3 starts to get messy. The other is whether it is cost effective, I know you say it’s existence is enough but you know they can’t come out with a console that is $200 more than their competition. If you don’t plan on selling as many units of it as possible its a waste of R&D and a waste of software effort getting games to run on it.

I just think there is still a lot that can be done with the Series X in terms of tools. Developers are really far from using everything DirectX12 provides so far, so things could get much better if they start truly using it. Even Digital Foundry wanted Microsoft to ask devs why they were not taking more advantage of the Series X.

The third SKU might be an issue, but it’s getting messy for both at this point. Digitals, slims, external disc drives etc… I don’t think a third Xbox would confuse anyone very much.

If you consider the marketing value for the brand in those costs it might look more effective as well. I also don’t think an Xbox Pro would have to be that much more expensive than a PS5 Pro, sounds odd.

Does anyone here play Pokemon TCG Live?

The Forza reddit has been super toxic since release. You would think it was the Halo reddit.

Just non-stop complaining.
