On the positive side, even at 720p, the HD collection looks so clean in BC. It’s a cleaner 720p that any port from that era. I played MGS3 a few months ago and it still looks good and sharp on my 4K screen.

So 1080p will be a bit cleaner, at least there’s that. I’m still skeptical that it will be real 1080p resolution and not 720p upscaled to 1080p though.

Iirc it has at least 2x MSAA, that helps with vegetation in MGS3 and MGS2 always had clean art. So yeah the difference between 1080p and 4k would not be too much. Still a strange decision. Lets see how it pans out in the end product.

Improved texture filtering is also coming to backward compatible titles on both Xbox Series X and Series S. On Xbox One X, a portion of the catalog benefited from increased anisotropic filtering, improving image quality of games. On Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, 16x anisotropic filtering has been enabled for nearly all backward compatible titles so you can experience the very best visuals the games have to offer.

I hope it has it. To me it’s just the bare minimum feature for a port.

I can’t believe we are fishing for clues and worrying about how these ports will run… It should be clarified as soon as possible.

I have the 360 collection. I was debating this collection, but it was dependent on 2 things.

1. MGS looked ok. Now we know it’s just emulated and looks rough.
2. The HD collection ports get a res boost to 4k.

So for me, I don’t know. Maybe one day on a deep deep sale for those extras like the original metal gear games.

So maybe the MGS remaster situation is not that bad

• All platforms except Switch – 1080p / 60 frames per second target
• Switch (docked mode) – 1080p / 30 frames per second target
• Switch (handheld mode) – 720p / 30 frames per second target

Upping the res to 1080p but not 4k seems strange but its Konami

Its not X enhanced so you ‘only’ get original 720p with locked 60fps, 16x texture filtering and faster loading times on One X and Series S|X. I think the HD collection was fine and better than Konamis other remaster attempts with Silent Hill and Zone of the Enders.

End of an era. There has been some speculation already even before this that it was not him in Mario Wonder. Anyway, understandable due to his age, and whoever it is in Wonder is doing a great replacement job, but still, damn, never thought I’d see the day.

Maybe Konami finally releases MGS4 from its PS3 prison.

I genuinely dislike MGS4 but it’s a shame that it’s stuck on the PS3, and I’d probably buy it for like twenty bucks just to have it and because of the nostalgia that’s associated with it.

This is… an interesting conversation. I’m 90 minutes into it. You can clearly see that Moriarty thinks ‘Microsoft bad’, sampled some random unrelated facts and stitched together an incredibly convoluted and contradictory world view around that premise. Rand cutting through to his bullshit is entertaining to listen to.

They did miss an opportunity with the completion rate conversation. They shouldn’t have let Colin define it as Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment versus God of War and Horizon. He knew beforehand what that would look like and of course it’s silly to compare two niche genre games one a shadow drop and one that kicked up a lot of curiousity versus two big established blockbuster franchises.

Halo Infinite has a 46% competition rate on True Achievements. Available on GamePass comparable to the big Sony examples.

Colin is really good at defining an argument and the goal posts, rules around a discussion without explicitly doing it. Jez and Rand shouldn’t have settled for the idea that Hi-Fi Rush and God of War are comparable and the only difference is GamePass availability. That’s nonsense.

Granblue Fantasy Relink is one of those games I’d hoped would include the Xbox logo too at ONL, but sadly wasn’t.

Hopefully we’ll see that change.
