They want the Gamepass check. Upfront money in-case their games bombed like Forspoken and Babylon Fall.
They got good Money From Outriders on GP. I’m sure they will still accept Sony Moneyhats for mainline FF games and Classic Good FF Remakes going forward.
This changes little IMO.
I mean, Phil does explicitly say there will be more Final Fantasy coming. That is at least a change from the previous perception.

That would be pretty damn great. On one hand you gotta wonder how much money Sony is willing to keep giving to keep a rather old remake exclusive, or perhaps it’s SE, like you say. I guess 16 wouldn’t be off the table either then.
Perhaps we’ll get the remake as a trilogy, round the time of next gen or so, lmao.

Something tells me we will see some port games coming first before FFXIV release. I think announcing today was a way to start the engine since it’s an event watched and joined by hundreds.

The HD2D games that skipped get ported (GOTY 2022 Live a Live), Star Ocean 2 adds an Xbox version before the release, Pixel Remasters
Then in the same conference, the NIS/Falcom rumor is finally fulfilled, and Koei steps in to say they are supporting GP more and roll out Atelier/Gust game ports.
Then my “portbeg” list would be officially fulfilled…
Of course, my expectations are absolutely not this high LOL. But maybe it will be a pretty interesting conference this year.

What if close relationship means Xbox is actually financing SquareEnix games exclusively for Xbox, like Sony does with stuff like Bloodborne for example? I’m guessing I’m reading too much into this, but you never know!

That would be great. As long as it’s not GaaS those don’t go well with SE, lol. One thing is for sure, it seems things are a lot better than what they were. I had given up on FF14, now it’s truly coming. And the wording about future releases sounds good too.

Dragon Quest Dai is not on Game Pass. FF 14 is probably not on Game Pass as well.
We can even go back to Star Ocean, DioField, Crisis Core and Chrono Cross.
It shows how extremely weird and silly these folks are. These two have nothing to do with each other.
I also saw one tweet by a dude that basically said “we” don’t like this, meaning SE on better terms with Xbox, and that “they” are gonna boycot SE now.
