Microsoft and Special Olympics have teamed up once again to offer a ‘Gaming for Inclusion’ esport tournament next month.
On November 11, 2023, Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners will compete virtually in Rocket League for a chance to play alongside celebrity supporters of Special Olympics, including NFL athletes and WWE Superstars, in an in-person and livestreamed event in Los Angeles, CA on November 18, 2023. Since 2014 the company has partnered with Special Olympics to empower Special Olympic athletes through technology and this year is no exception. With a mix of virtual and in-person events, everyone is invited to join in on the fun.
Per Head of Xbox Social Impact Jenn Panatoni on the partnership:
“Xbox is honored to further our commitment to create inclusive gaming experiences for everyone by partnering with Special Olympics as they bring the Gaming for Inclusion esports tournament to life again this year. Xbox works year-round to bring intentional, inclusive practices and accessible features to everything we do—but the Gaming for Inclusion tournament provides a moment for us, along with the Special Olympics communities, to remember what gaming is all about: play.”
Not only that, but in today’s Xbox Wire post they’ve also spotlighted one of their own, Elle Vance, to share their story on how being part of the gaming and disabled community has impacted their life. Lastly, Xbox has commissioned artist Danielle Taphanel to redesign the brand’s logo, which can be seen above in this post’s featured image.
