Sony has Spider-Man because they have the movie rights, Xbox doesn’t have leverage like that.
Totally, i don’t blame them for having to release their games on the competence’s platform, i do tho for getting to this point, honestly, other than Peter Moore, pretty much every Xbox exec has had no clue about how to compete in the console space.
Luckily, as someone said before, consoles aren’t everything, and while platforms like Playstation or Steam make a looot of money from third party sales, there are other ways to make that much money, making succesful GaaS games for example, like SoT, FH5 or Grounded, and that’s where i guess MS should focus now. That and 10+ million seller AAA games, now that they will release on PC and Playstation too there’s no excuse for them to get some bangers like Hogwarts, Elden Ring, Spiderman etc
I agree with this, and have personally switched from buying all third-party games on PS5 instead of Xbox, when I used to buy all my third-party games on Xbox One instead of PS4.
I think it looks like there are less people that are up in arms because, as you say, more people have accepted it. Or many have become apathetic to the Xbox brand. Either way, for many people, ‘‘accepting it’’ just means quietly moving over to PS. I don’t see the point of arguing and repeating the same things that I had said months ago, and being ‘‘up in arms’’. I think many people will ‘‘accept’’ this by next-gen. The impact on hardware and Game Pass subscribers numbers will be interesting to watch.
If it’s not FH5 right now what else makes sense?
- Flight Simulator (big mtx potential)
- State of Decay 2 (get people primed for 3)
- Halo Inifinite MP (game needs more players)
- Indiana Jones a timed exclusive? (Disney may have only let it on GP for a timed launch window of exclusivity)
Thoughts?
I think so too, but I don’t think Microsoft is going to do more than work with devs and publishers to try and get those games on Xbox.
They can’t constantly be paying for the ports because it would become an issue and I can’t see them trying to leverage MLG to create their own fighting game tournaments. With games that are on Xbox, to promote and grow the fighting games community that’s still here.
It also sucks that it looks like people on Xbox seem to get a lot of trash talk thrown at them for just being on Xbox(could just be the Ninjakilla, but I remember watching a video of his where he got matched with someone on Xbox and he was just toxic af about it).
Halo 5 because of hopium induced illusions of everyone maybe hearing the 5th entry into an Xbox franchise on last gen.
The master chief collection makes sense if you want to go for that available where ever you play part and will help 343i in general
They can’t monitize MCC though, so it kind of makes it’s chances less likely to me. Infinite is new enough and they can get away with only the f2p MP, without the campaign.
So they can say campaign is still exclusive as a we’re still committed to exclusive talking point.
Exclusivity lost its meaning a long time ago.
they want to make money + have a stable MAUs
whether they release a GAAS or a single player game, it won’t matter anymore.
They still need a bit of the old bait and switch to keep the old guard from going wild.
I would discard Halo simply because that is so intimately tied to Xbox as a brand. I also think that outside of a short period of memes like “lol I’m playing Halo on PS” for a week, it wouldn’t be very successful on PS. The game is just not very hot, unlike Sea of Thieves f.e.
I don’t think it’s Indiana Jones either, simply because of how they’ve framed it as an exclusive very recently. Let it do its work in the Xbox ecosystem first, then port it later. No need to disclose timed exclusivity beforehand even if it is in place imho. It’s also a singleplayer game so not sure of the potential there.
Flight Sim seems to be the obvious choice. Huge MTX potential like you say and even a possible integration with PSVR2.
State of Decay 2 is a very interesting one I hadn’t thought of but it would make sense in a way. A bit too far away from the release of SoD 3 though to have an effect?
My best guess would be Hellblade 2 (would that count as a “big” game?) which given the first game was everywhere would make sense, or perhaps Starfield launching alongside Shattered Space?
Most of those other games I’m not sure non-Xbox people would see as “big”, apart from Indiana Jones (which surely they’d let it come out first, like Sony do with timed exclusives) or Halo Infinite - but given they just wrapped up the seasons on it it feels like they’d have carried them on for another year if they had this planned…
Hellblade 2 does feel like it fits the bill. The first game was on PS after all, and it could probably need some more sales to keep NT going. With the suits yeeting studios left and right, they probably need to show their value or Phil presses a button.
FH5 makes the most sense. It has run its course already, is several years old, doesn’t really have much more to squeeze from Xbox/Pc players, and it can entice people into buying an Xbox/Gamepass in a few years when FH6 comes out.
Definitely has to be that one imo.
State of Decay 2 could make sense if the third game comes out before FH6, but FH5 is so much bigger and would make a much bigger splash.
One of the reasons I stopped engaging with “gamers” online especially on shitty apps on Twitter. When I saw a Youtube video where a guy ( who looked to be at least in his 30’s) made a whole ass video gloating about the collection skipping xbox, like some schoolyard taunt shit. That was about it for me.
Here’s my two cents. I personally get a ton of value from Game Pass (even at $20 a month), so I won’t even consider switching to another console unless Game Pass does. That being said, I was fine with the first set of games going multiplat. The live service games could “live” longer and I was hoping to see more income for Tango Game works, potentially leading to a Hifi Rush sequel. But my tone has changed after what actually happened.
Right after Hifi Rush going multiplat, they let go of Tango Game works. Luckily, Kraft on has stepped in to publish for them, but that made me really think about what Xbox is doing. It seems they only care about profits, not the games, the gamers, or the studios. It’s starting to feel like EA all over again.
I really didn’t understand why the next Doom would be multiplat, but I let it slide as an experiment. Forza is probably my favorite Xbox franchise, so if it goes multiplat, I really think nothing is off the table at that point. And that scares me.
Halo MP and Flight Sim makes the most sense IMO. The former needs a second boost and latter is not even a console seller.
I think Indiana Jones will come to PlayStation one year after release, but why announced it now ? Just feed into FOMO and make money.
I know how you feel, as I grow older it’s getting harder and harder to care about gaming podcasts and forums let alone interacting with the numerous crazy people on twitter e.t.c. Besides participating here in the forums and listening to Xboxera and Xbox Two podcasts I don’t follow any other youtubers or joined any other forums in I dunno maybe 7-8 years…even if I disagree with Jon, Jesse or Rand on some things (which is completely normal) I know that their opinions come from a place of honesty and sincerity and that’s the most important thing for me.
I don’t have time for disingenuous, uninformed and clueless haters that only spread negativity and seek “engagement”.
Yeah it gets tiring after a while. One of the reasons 90% of the gaming Youtubers I fellow are Retro, FGC or some other niche. Attempting to discuss gaming in most places on the internet is just depressing for the most part. I pretty much filtered out most of the gaming talk on Twitter and it’s mostly the artists I follow coming across my timeline now. Wish I’d done it sooner!
If not for this forum I probably wouldn’t discuss gaming at all online these days.
More like negative Rumor mongers getting “geared up” just before every xbox showing at whatever event like clockwork.
