The point is making a game exclusive when you have 20000(Twenty Thousand) games releasing in a year makes little sense. Forza already has to compete for space with the 20,000 games released on PC. Gran Turismo coming into the mix will face the same competition. Just look at Sony games on PC other than Hell Divers they aren’t doing that well and making them exclusive to their box is not helping. They had to bundle GOW Ragnarök to get 15million. Most of the exclusives struggle to go beyond 1 million. Spiderman 2 is the biggest seller.
hmmm, I don’t feel it’s a drop in the bucket in the pc market. There’s not many casual simulation racing games on PC. Most of the racing games are more on the simulation side than on the casual side. So, if they were to release GT series on PC it will severely impact Forza Motorsport.
“severely impact” you’re just guessing, man.
I feel they’re in direct competition. It’s not like a Forza Horizon vs Motorfest situation. The GT name holds weight and would impact motorsport on the pc side.
Motorsport is not very relevant on PC. iRacing is the go-to simulation racer for almost every pro/esport pro racing driver and Assetto Corsa is in 2nd. FM and GT fall in the simcade category, and I’m pretty sure FM currently has a better physics model than GT, so don’t think GT will appeal to the hardcore.
GT is more likely to share the casual userbase with games like Horizon and NFS. GTs hardcore appeal mostly comes from Playstation heavily sponsoring/mandating use of GT in esport competitions.
“Guessing” is a word choice…
That’s being nonchalant. There’s not many racing game series that can boost 90 million sales or have the brand recognition of GT. Let’s not make out that if GT were coming on the PC day 1 it wouldn’t have a possible impact on Forza PC sales
If SONY and Nintendo were to go all in on the PC that could have an impact on sales for XBox PC games given they’ll all be competing for people’s money.
PC sales seemingly aren’t good enough for Xbox now with talk of various Xbox games needing to go on SONY console for the revenue stream to hold up.
Xbox sales could be affected if SONY and Nintendo were go all in on the PC day 1, I wouldn’t be so flippant about it myself. More competition for your dollar isn’t always a good thing more so in the currently climate with people counting their pennies
But you are talking of the die-hard sim fan., Those same fans wouldn’t lower themself 's to play any game over the cloud despite people saying it’s the future. No esport player would use cloud gaming
Let’s get back to the mainstream and Forza is a rival to GT in the same way Sonic is to Mario. If both those games were coming to PC on day 1 they could impact/affect each other sales, just like Sonic sales could be affected if Mario games came out on PC and other consoles.
I remember the days when the PC was the system for racing sims thanks to Geoff’s F1 games and the likes of GTR 2. I would always look forward to playing those on my Uncle’s high end PC
I do think GT (day 1) and Motorsport would go head to head, which frankly would be a good thing for PC consumers. However I also think Horizon has largely eclipsed those games anyway.
I’m trying to think of other Sony VS MS titles that would directly compete and I can’t think of any. Maybe in the live service space? but that is competing with everyone not just Sony and Microsoft.
It isn’t about good enough but more about expanding their market. Here’s an example say Marvel decided the Avengers movies will only play in U.S theaters in the country while WB made Justice league playable globally on theaters around the world. You won’t expect people from different countries to travel over to the U.S just to watch Avengers. Avengers would do well but miss potential sales globally.
Also like I said Xbox is already competing for attention on PC. Sony coming in doesn’t do anything big. Most of Sony games are already day and date on PC and other than Hell Divers they aren’t thriving. Sony’s PSN requirement is not helping on PC so I would imagine that would impact GT.
More competition for your dollar is exactly what you want. This companies should be working to earn your dollar.
I think in the long run Xbox is pushing to redefine gaming and make it similar to the video /movie entertainment industry where content is king and not hardware. Steam is using other companies’ hardware to make money.
Xbox should at least be given the chance to test this strategy out.
They’ve direct rivals on consoles and that would continue on the PC if GT was going to be a PC regular and Day 1. I’m not a huge fan of either, neither are good sims; Richard Burns Rally and F355 were much better console racing simulations IMO
If SONY and Nintendo were going to come in big on the PC that could affect the smaller teams like Double Fine, Ninja Theory and Compulsion Games.
All wildly speculative for a market that already has PlayStation games on it and has ample access to pirating Nintendo’s. Can we please move off of this? You have zero evidence outside of feelings and it’s a pointless back and forth.
I don’t think I want to know the kind of worldviews shared by some here with the level of reality-distortion and denialism on display
I just find the doom posting absurd when we’re literally seeing the direct competitor follow in their footsteps, albeit years later, and no amount of verbal diarrhea will change that easily-verified reality.
That’s what looking into the future is…its all speculation.
I find it ironic that looking into a brave new world of Xbox is looking to have more of a footprint on the transitional SONY console user base.
In my view, the userbase for gamers who like the style of AAA gaming that SONY and Xbox are investing big in will never get past 200 million not matter how many screens both get their content on.
There are so many forms of entertainment out there that cost nothing like the video game hobby which still is far too expensive for many. It struck me that over the Christmas period having parties with family and friends how the days of playing a Christmas present new game is over and most look to play TikTok for their entertainment
I find that a big worry going forward is that so many younger people have no interest in traditional styles of gaming like your COD, FIFA, Indy Ect, etc Now it’s all about snap chat and the likes of TikTok that are massive and free.
Younger people play games, at least all the ones in my family and wife’s family do, but it’s the usual ones, like Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft. That’s what they play and that’s what they watch their influencers play.
MS at least has Minecraft but they’d need to get their hands on the next big thing. Don’t know why they can’t have their own Gacha developed in house to compete with the likes of ZZZ or Genshin Impact and have it cross platform at launch, including mobile. They definitely need that mobile presence to get the younger crowd and to help with social media presence as well.
Yea it is silly and REALLY takes away from the community. We REALLY need to step back and stop the sports team mentality of rooting for companies and then trying to line up numeric stats to prop up our Teams Win’s.
It is stupid and fractures what could be a huge great gaming community but in the end it just end up on console wars and bickering about who sold more plastic boxes then the other guy.
I think a LARGE portion of the gaming community forgets this hobby is about video games and not some proxy console war situation.
On the Xbox front they are setting things up to be outside of the stupid console wars and will not depend on single hardware sales, your games/saves and profiles will be with you on whatever hardware you want to play on.
That should be exciting to Xbox gamers if they could pull their head out of their ass for a second and get beyond console wars.
Nintendo - Portable eco system now
Xbox - Hardware agonistic eco system
Sony - Dragging their feet into the future and trying desperately to cling to single hardware sales while threading the needle on multi plat releases while not pissing off their hardcore nutjob fans
Xbox is in much better shape going forward for a post hardware and post physical game environment which we know this is all heading to.
I agree and like I said it was a good move by MS to get Mindcraft but I see a shift away from the AAA style of gaming to free or very simple mobile-style games not just from the younger section but also the older gamer section who have moved on from their heavy gaming days and now are happy spending their free time on TikTok and Instagram
I just feel the type of people out there who want to play the AAA style of games like Indy will never get past 200 million odd no matter how many screens you have and really that should be more than big enough anyway.
You have a solid reasoning overall ,i can get behind that.
Although, there’s one thing that kinda makes me a tad wary and that’s how Microsoft is gonna go with their “messaging”, if we can still call it that, without it making it out to be that platform users on are the lowerest priority list. Sure they commited to hardware but we should at the very least have a glimspe of that this year, right? I feel like that would appease quite a few people.
Another thing that i feel like they should be carefull for is not going full multiplat as i feel that would kill the brand, while Play Anywhere and Game Pass are good incentives i feel like that would not be sufficed enough for current users if things were to go that way, especially with Playstation not currently doing anything of the sort for now at least. Pc only users would not bat an eye but it would leave a vaccum for a duopoly in Playstation and Nintendo. That is not anideal future that hardware users would like to have.
Also with Microsoft’s goals for both Cloud and AI i think they need that hardware in order to find success they wish to have and in order to do that they need people buying their platform and using their apps to play and spend on games.
Sorry for the approach,am just pointing out an opinion that i have on matters currently. No offense to those that may disagree or add or whatever.
