Xbox multi platform discussion

10 million over the course of an entire generation is insanely low. Keep in mind that’s not 10 million instantly sold, that would be 10 million sold over the course of a 5-7 year generation. I just can’t see them making hardware if they lose like 4-5x their current customer base.

There would be other things to worry about with numbers that low but I don’t want to go too deep into something that hasn’t even happened.

Yea their is no SAVING Xbox as far as traditional hardware sales go VS other consoles, that ship has sailed LONG ago. People need to get the fuck over that sports team mentality of the console wars as it is 100% pointless and just makes the gaming community toxic as fuck to deal with. Play the games you want on the devices you want and please STFU and be respectful to other gamers enjoying the same hobby on a piece of different hardware.

So either MS was going to change business models or shut down the division, I’m glad they chose to change with the times. My games/Accounts/Saves are going to go with me where I choose to play my games

Sega didn’t change and had to opt out, Nintendo changed and is more successful then ever.

Sony and Sony fans want them to be a monopoly for console hardware and at this point they can have that empty crown cause it’s not going to mean anything going forward.

Yipee Sony you are the High end Hardware Sales console champion. woopdee do, now in the real world outside of console wars that doesn’t mean much of anything and Sony itself is also having to pivot to push their first party titles to other platforms.

While Sony is going back and fourth on 1st party strategy and has long instances of 1st party silence and also seems to just want to push out remasters and remakes to fleece it’s customer base MS is actually doing interesting and new things with their eco system that is value oriented for consumers.

Unfortunately alot of people are stupid and would rather have Sony fleece them then try something new.

Dumbass gamers will pretty much end up getting what they deserve, Keep rejecting value and new idea’s for the same old bullshit and you can keep watching Sony fleece you while not adding anything of value to their eco system.

You act like PC is Microsoft or XBox when it’s not, it’s a completely open platform and if need be nothing is stopping SONY or Nintendo from putting all their games on the PC if they need too and they don’t even need to use Windows if they want to be ultimately childish

It’s Valve is doing the best on the PC front when you look at it. It is Valve store front that most PC gamers now use for their games

You also seem to be making a highly speculative assumption that all PC owners have game-worthy setups when most people I know who have a PC They’ll be lucky if their rig could outperform an XBox One never mind the current-gen consoles

If Nintendo can survive the Wii U selling about that much then Xbox can survive 10-50 million console sales each gen for however long console hardware cycles will actually be a thing. We are talking probably 2 more normal hardware cycles of 6-8 years at most lasting until the late 2030’s .

After that who knows what the gaming landscape will be like and also during that time things will have changed a lot.

One thing is for sure the console environment we’ve seen since the mid 90’s is going to change dramatically and may not even be a thing at some point.

More importantly, when you’re pulling hyperbolic figures that don’t represent reality (unless you’re Nintendo with the Wii U or Sony with the Vita, so far) out of your ass, the entire “argument” falls apart.

Can’t wait for the next Sony game to come to different shores, only for this topic to still be dominated by the same concerns. Beyond old at this point.

Hmm, do you guys think Xbox is trying to be a jack of all trade but a master of none with their recent ad? Curious about what you guys think, mostly cause am thinking about how competition is brewing for every sector of gaming for the moment at least.

As well as the supposed balacing act it could have in regards to focus in between their platform(hardware side), Pc App and cloud service. i won’t delve into exclusives for the moment am asking about this whole thing i asked above in particular.

They simply want their games to be played on more devices then a single under TV piece of hardware. The world games very differently now then it did in the past where we were stuck in front of our TV’s or Computers to game.

Why people interpret this as leaving the hardware business I’ll never understand.

They are going to keep making console hardware just like they keep making Surface PC’s even though other types of PC’s sell better then the Surface line. It’s not that difficult to understand if people would stop acting like fools and just look at the current market and where things are headed.

Xbox is diversifying the platforms their games go to, this does not mean getting rid of consoles.

Your games and saves and account are no longer tied to a single piece of living room hardware, the fate of the entire Xbox division does not hinge on monthly sales of said hardware. This is a good thing and means more flexibility to the eco system and less pressure of one game failure or one hardware failure could tank everything.

I think ALOT of these issues people have and all the freaking out would be greatly reduced if people STOPPED thinking of hardware sales like they are rooting for a sports team.

For the love of god just stop it, I’ve been gaming since 1977 and for most of that time the gaming community was an ok place to meet people and share general interests, but since the late 90’s and not surprisingly since Sony has been on the scene it is a toxic nightmare of in fighting and console wars and people treating these companies like their local regional sports team where every sale is a point in your favor and you MUST defend your team at all costs.

It’s bullshit and has made the gaming community a toxic nightmare to delve into especially if you happen to game mostly on an Xbox.

Just fucking stop it, everything in life changes, the way you game will change, adapt or find a different hobby or if you REALLY need that competitive us VS them crap just find a sports team to root for,

It is fucking sad that a huge community like the gaming community can’t just drop the war bullshit and find common ground to enjoy the hobby with others.

Stop worrying about hardware sales, stop worrying if Xbox will be around in 20 years (Clue for you the entire world may not be around in 20 years the way things are going)

Fucking enjoy all the great games coming out and the cheap way Gamepass let’s you experience tons of games without having to put down thousands of dollars on $70 games a piece.

In fairness, the vast majority of Xbox gamers wanted Bethesda/ABK/studio acquisitions to be exclusive to Xbox/PC (myself included) because when a hardware manufacturer acquires something, that’s just how it should be. This is how I see it and will always see it this way because in my mind, why buy something if you’re still giving it to everyone else? At that point, no reason to spend the money and investment to buy it. Even an ABK for $70B will probably take them a decade to get back that money and it doesn’t include the money that Microsoft is spending while owning them in the process.

As for Kadokawa, if Sony would have acquired them, I always said that they would remain multi-platform because if the $3T dollar company in Microsoft is done with exclusives for the most part especially from the two publishers they acquired in ABK and Bethesda, how would Sony being worth around $100B justify making Kadokawa exclusive to PlayStation and lose all that extra revenue?

But as a fan/gamer/consumer who has his favorites, preferences and beliefs just like everyone else, I understand where others come from because at my core, im the same exact way.

I simply have given up that mentality only because I know Microsoft isn’t doing what I (or Nick, hehe) would have preferred them to do. It is what it is.

As long as Microsoft keeps their published games day one on Game Pass Ultimate and of course, keeps Game Pass Ultimate, I will stay on Xbox as long as they give me a console. If/when any of these three things change, then it becomes a different story for me to be had.

The ad is a mixed bag for me because it’s advertising stuff that isn’t there yet. The ad would’ve made perfect sense if they had a unified store, and better cloud service. At the moment they don’t have either of those. Plus, from experience xcloud is behind the other cloud providers. I thought the ad would’ve been wise if they had those stuff ready.

I think it’s too early to say until we see their next gen plans. However, it does seem based on rumors they might be positioning themselves as a platform that bridges cloud, pc, handheld and console gaming.

it is aimed at people who have no f’ing clue what the differences are between Xbox’s offerings on PC, Console, and mobile. They just see what they can play on their phone and go “ah, cool beans” or “meh”. Again, it is not aimed at those of us who already know all of this.

While cool the problem is they’re offering it on platforms with competitors outdoing them. Luna is on Amazon is fast and has a bunch of games. Then there is NVidia. I think what they have on console is amazing if they can replicate it well on these other devices or platforms lest they do begin to look more like a Jack of all trades and master of non. I like many love what they’re doing but there always seem to be something. I hope by next year they get it right.

Yeah, I get that, but the services aren’t up to par for this marketing. I live in the Toronto area which is a major city and xcloud doesn’t work that well compared to other cloud services. I have seen other sentiments online about xcloud not working well. In my experience with others services have been much better. I don’t think the current state of xcloud you can do this kind of marketing because first impressions are everything, and current state will leave a bad first impression about “this is an xbox”

I use geforce now a little. xCloud is much better in terms of latency (for me) and has a much better UX. Which is why it kills me the image quality isnt there, Its so close to being the best one for me.

Luna is outdoing nothing and Nvidia is a headache for non-gamers to figure out.

A quick search shows Amazon Luna has 177 games(and you can’t stream your games from Steam), Nvidia still needs to get permission from publishers if people want to stream their games through their services.

Content wise and capacity wise Xcloud(Which is Game Pass Ultimate only) has got them both beat, the issue is quality of the streaming. Which on mobile data is bad, but on wifi and wired it can range from looks really good and plays like native(Yakuza 4 remastered), to its a literal slide show where I can see a line of data moving down the screen(Also Yakuza 4 remastered). Currently Microsoft is working on improving the quality so all streams are of good quality.

The AD is good to me, but I do agree it would make more sense if they had a unified store and can bring the whole ecosystem experience everywhere.

What do you think the number could be, ballpark? I would still wager that it’s at least double the PS5 userbase.

The Xbox App is one thing and maybe my post focused too much on that because I do factor in Steam sales. Steam is an important part of hitting sales thresholds that won’t result in studio closures.

My point about that was in regards to Game Pass, but when I say they’re underperforming I’m also including Steam game sales.

Xbox releases games on Steam.

I have no problem with the “This is an Xbox” ad at all. I do agree with the video that way too many people have no clue what they are missing out on. Terms like “Game Pass” and “Play Anywhere” don’t resonate with people who know nothing about Xbox. But it’s also true that the full Xbox ecosystem experience today is only possible on the console, and that’s the caveat when everything supposedly is an Xbox. I hope the end goal is to offer the same experience on console, PC and cloud. While Xbox will like to have revenue from other storefronts, their best customer would still be the one who is engaging directly with them and subscribe through console, PC and cloud. That’s why I do think they will need unique perks to their offering, like (timed) exclusivity, cloud-only subscription tiers, Play Anywhere etc. I’m not sure value alone will do it.

We’ll see.
