Xbox multi platform discussion

Always appreciate the thoughts of Ever born Saga and K. Asante. Always adult, well conveyed, and not overly emotional.

Gamers Circle is by far my favorite gaming podcast.

You should listen to his entire response on Prime Time Gaming that this was clipped from, he was cooking in a way that folks on both side of this could agree with.

There will be a next gen console and I hoping it’s a console with PC extras that I don’t have to interact with. As it becoming a full PC would be the same as pretty much killing Xbox for me and I would have to really think about what I will do.

Gentle reminder:

PS5 console sales are tracking nearly 2 million below PS4 console sales in the same number of months since each launched.

PS5 software sales are approximately 12% below PS4 software sales in the same number of months since each launched.

Another reminder:

The new console models announced at the showcase won’t be coming to certain countries, like Brazil (hello there).

You couldn’t find them since the XSS fiasco and now I believe MS just gave up. I don’t have hopes for the next generation arriving here.

If you are in North America you’ll be fine. Dunno about the rest of the world.

Amazing how MS was known for the best support over here and now even Nintendo is doing a better job. PS5 is also cheaper than ever here.

What they gave up was selling hardware at substantial financial loss to the company because of currency differences and excessive taxation of goods.

Lol that is the worst excuse I have read all year. Great games sell consoles look at Wukong getting PS5 sold out in China. China doesnt tax their consoles as well? Yeah right.

How are news like this any good for the brand? Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

I really disagree with Jason’s article, especially since he thinks Xbox should just go 3rd party, a strategy that makes no sense whatsoever.

Also, from what we know I think PS5 only doubled their sales or something like that, which might not amount to much to be honest. China is PC land, and at this point in time, nothing will ever change that.

SĂł your argument about China and consoles, is China is PC land nothing Will ever Change that???

Bro grow up, you should know that China had laws in place that would stop anyone from selling a console there. And they still have laws in place for the amount of time minors can play, so everything Will Change that if the government abides to, which they Will seeing the cultural phenomena the game hĂĄs seen there.

What does that have to do with xbox porting? You can say the same that Xbox is behind the xbox one in sales and projected to do much worse in sales. Plus, sales wise in Microsoft’s home territory it’s not doing that well when compared to PS5.

Also, even if slightly behind PS4 in sales they still won’t release games on xbox and will still due to their late pc ports. I don’t think they’re at a point of doing day and date with PC this gen. Meanwhile, we don’t fully know what xbox port strategy is for the rest of the gen, and I am leaning towards multiplat, but can’t fully commit yet since this shift happened late in dev cycle, so won’t have day and date like Doom

To think gaming should be a hobby.

If you want to go to Playstation, go there, don’t hesitate if it makes you have more fun. If you want to go to PC, do the same as well as for Xbox. I don’t care anymore what people think, especially on social media. Just have fun wherever you are. Personally, I love Game Pass and the console ecosystem, so I have more than enough to play on Xbox ( and Switch too ).

The point is fighting for market share in a shrinking market is not worth it for them business wise. And you as a consumer, have no need to know what games they’re gonna port lol. it’s just a hobby.

I am at a loss for what you are trying to say. China (not mentioned in the article) will become the home of consoles because a game that is available on PC is selling some PS5s?

“Fighting for market share is not worth it for us business wise.”

I’m sure that will have consumers lining up to invest in Xbox consoles. Are we trying to please consumers or shareholders here?

I omitted the shrinking market part on the basis of there simply being no evidence to support this. Switch is in line to become the most successful console ever and PS5 is tracking ahead of PS4 sales-wise. Plus the recent surge in hardware sales for the college football game suggests a lot of people are still on last gen and probably just waiting to be enticed by big games that actually drop last gen releases. Phil Spencer himself has just come out and said they have more active console users this year than ever. Doesn’t sound like a shrinking market?

And sorry but consumers absolutely would like to know which games are being ported over. Some out there can only afford one console, and if someone chose Xbox on the basis of Phil Spencer telling them that the Bethesda acquisition, for example, was “about bringing exclusive games to Xbox customers on platforms where Game Pass exists”, then of course they’re going to want to know if that’s turned out not to be the case. I know someone who left a digital library behind on PS4 to buy a Series X because of the Bethesda acquisition. They’re understandably going to feel a little miffed and misled if it turns out they didn’t need to do that after all.

I did watch the whole thing and they all good points.

I think this is what some didn’t want. Bloomberg is a big site that reaches to the casuals and general public. It’s obvious this kind of narrative if not handled can get into Xbox one level situations again.

Shareholders are more important than customers to a business.

PS5 is tracking ahead of the PS4 in the US, it is behind worldwide.

Switch is one of the most successful consoles ever because it merged their extremely successful handheld line with their less successful home line. Nintendo DS managed to move upwards of 150 million units BTW.

I don’t know that the console market is shrinking, but the size has not grown much over the years.

The person you know spent their money and things changed, they might have made a different choice if they could rewind 4 years back in time but it is what it is at this point.

It’s understandable that people want to know, but it’s also understandable why they want to keep people guessing.

I don’t think people realize how much Nintendo’s handhelds did on their own. The Switch is a solid handheld for Nintendo after their console market dipped horribly and they had to massively readjust. Instead of having 200+ million (or more) at once with console+handheld combined they’re doing amazing with combined hardware but it’s still not as much as before.

Is there any source for this?

From the data i’ve seen, Sony’s selling more software now than 3-4 years after PS4 launch, last quarter for example it sold 53M vs 45M back in 2017.

PS4 sold around 50% more than PS3, but we’ve seen PS5 games outselling the last gen ones back since 2021, so i doubt that 4,5 years after this generation consoles release, the old gen one is having a big impact anymore.

And i’m just talking about full game software, if we take into account whole software, which is microtransactions, it wouldn’t be remotely close since we’re on the Fornite, Fifa trading cards… era, and that barely didn’t exist 8-10 years ago

They’re making more money and not keeping that much of it.
