Xbox Handheld Fullscreen Mode leaks

New leak I guess.

It lools like some work needs to be done on the user end but as the tittle says it’s available to all PC Handhelds.

I saw this!!

It looks like they’re testing the XBOX Full screen experience over on the insider channels. For some people they’re reporting it’s as easy as hopping into the release preview and it just being there in settings with the 25H2 update. For others it’s much more work.

Whats keeping me from doing this on my Legion Go is that from what I know windows insider isn’t as “safe” as Xbox insider. There’s deeper OS level stuff and different hardware and it could brick your device. Plus I have two consoles and only one handheld. I also know that Windows can take away insider features as they head out to full release. But this is great because it looks like you will be able to brute force it early and the wait won’t be too long for this on other devices officially.

It’s neat to see, though you don’t gain the full “no windows running” benefits just yet.

Maybe this means it will be release for everyone quicker than expect, if they already have a insiders testing it.

Which is the actual system seller.

So is it the same with what’s available on the Xbox ally as pretty much everyone is saying you’re not saving the 2 gigs that the Xbox Ally X gets.

Hopefully, though from what I understand windows insider updates can be really weird vs the public rollout. Like AFAIK Windows 11 features were tested randomly for windows 10 insiders before being morphed into windows 11. And I think this was like over a year before windows 11 launched. I’ve hopped over to the Windows Insider subbredit and they just seem constantly mad :joy:. I think windows update testing can be very, very umm… convoluted.

But it’s super interesting that this is part of the 25H2 release preview build, because that’s the yearly fall update. 25H2 is also one I’ve seen other tech sites report as a “nothing-burger”, like from what I understand it’s not an update and just enables/disables features present.

I feel like that says something but idk what.

I guess it could be an optimization issue? Like the Xbox Ally is built from the ground up for Xbox Full Screen mode. But zero work has been done yet to optimize it for other handhelds, and they said they wouldn’t do rollout until next year, so maybe that’s why?

Was it a mistake?

Nah. I’m gonna write a bit about this today. I’ve done it, and it’s not exactly what you get with the actual Xbox Ally. Close, but no cigar.

If the Xbox Ally X is at most $900 then it’s priced pretty competitively for a new Z2E handheld. As far as I can tell, this device has always been more of a means to an end for Microsoft with pushing Xbox to the forefront of windows gaming. I don’t think they mind so much it people who already own a PC handheld, don’t buy a new Xbox Ally. Especially since I don’t think the Xbox Ally is targeting those people or a good buy for them because the Z2E chip like is said, isn’t that big of an upgrade. Really this is still an early adopter product and early adopter software: what’s important is that Microsoft gets it out there and starts making waves. The ultimate endgame has to be more Xbox PC OEMs and eventually Xbox Full Screen mode available on all gaming PCs. If not straight up making Xbox Full screen mode default or at least something you choose when you first boot windows.
