Xbox FanFest won’t take place for the show, but it will happen at a later date as they got something in store for the 10th anniversary.
I absolutely adored the original game so I’m glad the second one is getting extra time to show off this year.
Same, and I can’t believe how prescient Outer Worlds was in a pre-COVID, pre-insanity era we’ve been living through - the labor and resource commentary is so on point.
So The Outer Worlds 2 is really releasing this year or early next year. I’m so excited. I loved the first one. With a bigger budget, this game could be incredible.
Avowed and now The Outer Worlds 2…insanity.
Edit : there’s gameplay and more to come on IGN this month
Seemed like a lot of the community folks expected to be out there for the 8th. Curious what the FanFest stuff looks like.
Obsidian rules.
There’s no fanfest on that date, though perhaps behind closed doors press. That said there will be fanfest this year for the special 10th anniversary.
Something something, the actually-most-efficient-studio in the industry. Making a half dozen titles in just about as many years, none of which used the same map/world layout, and almost all functionally different genres to boot. I said it in 2018 when Xbox bought Obsidian that they were my favorite, and arguably best, studio acquisition and I still stand by that sentiment - not to knock any of the publishers/studios purchased since, but Obsidian has been in a class of their own since their inception.
Very happy that the Direct isn’t COD for the second year in a row. Just watched the 11 minute gameplay video for The Outer Worlds 2 and yeah, day one for me. Looks great. Hyped!!!
Agreed. One my favorite studios.
The Outer Worlds 1 was a diamond in the rough. Solid bases for a banger sequel.
Can’t wait, adore Obsidian - loved Pentiment and the first Outer Worlds and about to finish Avowed which I’m really enjoying.
Going to struggle if more games announced - going from “Xbox has no games” (which wasn’t ever really true) to “I’m so swamped with games I need to give up adult life so I can play as much as I did as a teenager”!
I’m a little curious myself. What happens now do people need to cancel that trip and head rather to summer game fest.
As for a gaint gaming company who can buy literally ANYTHING in the market, there is only one announcement I feel that would be the perfect “one more thing announcement” to drop at this stage of the generation. And I think it will be everyone favorites as soon as I finish the details, let’s start:
-
One minute long
-
… Next era of home entertainment coming 2027
-
…True next level of console gaming is about to begin
-
… Echoes for Devs, executives talking about dreams
-
… Echoes changed from real ppl to games
-
… Censored pics of what it looks like the Next Xbox
-
… First letter for the code name appears
-
… Few seconds of in-game Jaw dropping/ Never seen level graphics for current in-development projects: Gears E-Day, Fable, Next Forza Motorsport, OVERDOSE and some Hyper level of teasing: From Software collaboration, The Initiative next IP, Rare platform IPs, Big cinematic adventures games and mystry games.
-
Finish the announcement by revealing the full code name of the next Xbox, with a Background Wallpaper mixing a unique art-style with easter egges.
-
When the screen blackout, a morse signal begins. translation : Spartans Never Die.
Back in the day I’d also put Insomniac in that bracket, however since PS has owned them their output has not been so significant (all the Spider-Man games were very copycat). It’s ironic really considering they used to mainly develop exclusively for PS anyway.
Obsidian definitely takes that crown now.
Why are people saying xbox is not doing a live “e3” style event because they are afraid of fan reactions? Sony and nintendo haven’t done a live “e3” event in a while. Are they afraid of fan reactions?
Why would they? If anything, last year would have been the best time to do that with the whole third party push.
Because people have always been dumb.
Distinctly remember Xbox’s show last year being hailed (in the usual hyperbolic way) as ‘the best’, and this was after ports were announced.
Gaming is fucking dumb.
who knows? When people don’t get specific reasons, they just make up one. Perhaps they’re just trying things. The Xbox developer direct seemed to have gone pretty well so maybe they’re adopting that format. If anything, I’d prefer they do their own thing and not add it to summer game fest. Keighley in my opinion gets his boost from their show.
