You never know. We did have a rumor not so long ago about a release date announcement. But I’m not sure about the exact rumor and from where it was.
It’s doubtful though.
The initial release date day has yet to come, I doubt they will now have a new date they feel good about. Personally I’m not expecting it to be announced this year anymore.
Yup. I hope they outsource a spin-off or something. And before the “it must be bethesda bla bla” crowd gets here, the best modern Fallout game was made by an outside studio…
Not to mention that it is an acquired IP that they didn’t come up with in the first place. Let it live!
So basically they intend to keep the mainline Fallout series in-house but aren’t opposed to spin-offs by other teams. Also interesting note he does mention that the wider Bethesda team worked on Fallout 76 including Bethesda Maryland, which has been a point of contention in the past.
Hope we get fallout spin offs wether that’s non number entries like new Vegas or something like tactics I think having to wait 10-15 for a new fallout is ridiculous. This also applies to the welder scrolls as well
I really think that expecting one studio to make three gigantic RPG franchises at the same time is unreasonable, no matter how much they scale up. I imagine losing the identity and culture of BGS is a concern if they get too big too quickly.
People might just need to accept long gaps between mainline entries (Fallout is the only one where giving it to Obsidian makes sense, if Obsidian want to do it and it won’t affect Avowed and TOW).
Edit: Also, we had two Fallout games last generation. It’s not like we’ve been waiting 10+ years like TES (which is up next after Starfield). I like all the BGS pillars so as long as we get another BGS RPG every 4-6 years, I don’t care if it’s TES, Fallout or Starfield.
There are no studios except third party who could make a fallout game. Everyone is busy. Inxile have 2 projects, obsidian have avowed and tow2. Unless a third party is willing to do it, you guys are probably going to have to wait.
Obsidian could do it. With Grounded and Pentiment wrapping up, they will have some teams available to start pre-production now, and then once Avowed ships, that team could transition over to New Vegas 2. I imagine BGS would give them the Starfield engine like they did for Fallout 3 back in the day.
As long as they don’t just become a Fallout studio and still keep working on their own IPs, I don’t mind (and only if Obsidian wants to do it).
? The teams working on Pentiment and Grounded are way too small to work on a Fallout game, especially when Obsidian is working on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2.
Obviously when the game enters full production, the team would scale up, likely when Avowed ships and that team can move over.
I’m just saying that Obsidian are about to have 30+ staff members available (20 or so from Grounded, 15 or so from Pentiment). That’s enough to get pre-production going on New Vegas 2, if they want to do it, and then they can increase to 100+ once Avowed is out.
Yesterday night I finished Outer Wilds and my excitement for Starfield could not be higher now. Outer Wilds doesn’t have any combat, plenty of exploration on some very interesting planets. Starfield will have combat and there is zero doubt that it will have some absolutely amazing locations that will have us floored with how wonderous it is. Stuff that makes you go “Holy shit, I didn’t expect this on this particular planet.”
Hopefully there will be parts where on the planet we get to use a vehicle, preferably a ship of some kind. Flying into Dark Bramble in Outer Wilds was something special, it was eerie, had a feeling of dread, loneliness and was unlike anything else in the game.
Given the success of the game, Grounded will probably grow or have new content on a regular basis, just like Sea of Thieves. I highly doubt that the developers will be available for another project anytime soon.
