Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

GoTG had repetitive mediocre gameplay, being “cinematic” doesn’t give that game a pass.

Nintendo fans talking about unused legacy is IP is wild :skull:

It’s fine because it’s fun, I didn’t play GOTG expecting DMC5 with marvel characters.

Seems opinions on this game are all over place. To me I liked the gameplay a lot even if it was repetitive, but anything that was “cinematic” I hated.

Things are taken out of context very quickly

Was just talking about length of a game so that it can be dilevered in 2 years

But talk some how got to how good said game was :smiling_face_with_tear:

It happens :craig:

I think Game Pass needs some cinematic games because it’s a game subscription service and people want to chill after work.

Nothing more chill than The Last of Us Part 2

It is a chill game, you can sit back and watch the cutscenes. The game difficulty is pretty tame if you are on normal or casual, and the action is very detailed. The story follows a simple structure that a lot of Walking Dead fans and stuff enjoy.

The fact that it’s successful formula hasn’t been emulated by other developers is just kinda sad. Naughty dogs been making the same games for over a decade and they are one of the only developers doing it.

Considering the amount of staff and crunch was needed to make this game, I am wondering why…

Such games are very very expensive and they require 10m+ to justify the development. (or at least 5m+)

It is very annoying how one particular game is used as an example to make the entire notion look bad

Because not every studio has access to like 13 studios, endless crunch or wants to make pretentious misery porn

A plague tale innocence followed the formula and they ended up making a game that’s almost as compelling for half the budget.

Because it’s hard as hell lol. I don’t think it’s as easy as you’re making it out to be.

I don’t find the narrative for A Plague Tale or The Last of US to be very compelling, it’s pretty ordinary stuff compared to the likes of an average film or TV show.

It’s just that most video game developers are really bad at writing games. They also incorporate odd character designs that a lot of people cannot take seriously.

That’s a personal opinion though.

This is a copy cat industry, if it was as easy you’re making it out to be, Xbox would have studios that can emulate what ND do and Sony would have studios that could emulate what Bungie did. Unfortunately game development doesn’t work like that.

You can throw a bunch of money at a studio but you can’t make up years of experience and dev talent. It’s why Halo “killers” or “Uncharted killers” “GTA Killers” never pan out.

Another good example of such a game.

Do not understand the obsession with cenmatic games. I can like it if it’s done well, but it’s not an important or key thing to me at all. And more often than not it just works to interrupt the gameplay flow I’m having. It’s crazy to me that some aspect that makes games more like movies is starting to be an aspect that some judge the games based on. It’s even more crazy when you realize that AAA game devs love that stuff because they’re still insecure about their craft and think it wouldn’t be recognized as art unless it imitates movies.

Its really funny Xbox has a ton of games that are more popular than “cinematic games” and yet everyone wants them to copy Sony
