Yeah, the CD Tomb Raider games were great. I don’t get the disdain people have for them lately.
Still hoping MS acquires the current and former western Square studios and IP. I would love another Deus Ex

Deus Ex, oh yes, very much so. As much as I want more JRPG on Xbox, SE isn’t doing too well at all lately and I’ve given up on ever seeing mainline FF again on Xbox. But the Western IP…I’d take that in a heartbeat over that.
It’s a bit of a shame the Initiative’s original studio vision didn’t quite work out but the main thing is it sounds like they’re back on track now. I wonder if the plan is for them to become a more traditional style studio post Perfect Dark but i imagine they’ll need a heck of a lot of hires to do that (which may not be easy). Eitherway, like everyone else here I’m glad to hear Perfect Dark is still moving forward and the Initiative seem ready to move in a direction they’re happy with.
Regarding clickbait and negative YouTube videos, it’s a shame this whole story does make for a snappy headline but when you delve deeper it perhaps isn’t as dramatic. I think things would have looked worse if say, all these devs left Initiative and CD and CA hadnt been brought in as the main hands on devs on Perfect Dark. Sometimes i do wish journalists did more stories on some of the more “real” issues currently plaguing the games industry but i guess they don’t bring in as much clicks as leaks and clickbait headlines
8 minutes of Ghostwire Tokyo in total immersion without UI… Tango Gameworks is an Incredible Studio it’s probably the most beautiful Next-Gen game to date and the best use of Ray Tracing
I don’t really understand why people say this game doesn’t look great. I think it looks amazing and the art style is so striking.
Because its an Xbox Studio now…
And it’s a moneyhat.
Deathloop and Ghostwire had bad luck.
That’s partly why I’ve pre-ordered Ghostwire, not blindly but I recognise that I’m taking a risk. I just feel bad for Tango and the whole situation. It feels like Deathloop and especially Ghostwire, regardless of critical reception, are kind of being shit out just to fulfil the deal (Ghostwire had far less marketing than Deathloop).
Xbox can’t market them and wouldn’t anyway because they aren’t on Xbox, and Sony probably don’t want to be marketing games owned by a competitor that is about to stop putting games on their platform. I just feel like both games are caught in the middle and I want to do what I can to support the studios, and to support creative new IPs.
I would argue that regarding marketing they are kinda lucky that Sony is marketing them rather than Xbox With Xbox you can be sure that it would have close to none marketing.
I take your point, but Forza and Halo got quite a lot of marketing last year, and we’re already seeing Starfield getting a decent amount. You can be sure that Avowed, Hellblade 2, Perfect Dark, Fable etc. will get a lot of marketing, even if it’s not the big flashy marketing which Sony does.
These visuals, this style and this kind of location and then for The evil Within 3 or another third person horror game similar to it.
I’d love this.
Anecdotally with VR and Kinect it would be also a hilarious game. Imagine having the controls in your hands + the abiltiy to make getsures for the spells.
Looks nice. Looking forward to release next year!
I would bet money on The Evil Within 3 being next from Tango.
No interest in Ghostwire Tokyo but the Ray Tracing looks excellent. Hoping this is a one and done (and Deathloop for that matter) so Tango Gameworks can get working on The Evil Within 3 if they aren’t already and whatever Mikami’s dream game is.
Regarding The Initiative, very happy that Microsoft and those that are still there want to be an AAA development studio. Never liked the small and agile AA/Indie development studio idea at all. I still believe that regardless of the ActivisionBlizzard acquisition, Microsoft should acquire Crystal Dynamics as soon as possible. Then, they can merge with the 40 or so people at The Initiative, the name can be dropped and can simply be called Crystal Dynamics as it should be and they eliminate having to hiring a few hundred people since they would already be there via the Crystal Dynamics acquisition. All Microsoft would have to do is keep the retention of staff as high as possible once Perfect Dark is completed and there you go. Studio is now completely set with everyone having the same mindset of what they want the studio to be.
In short, im very happy that Microsoft wants The Initiative to be an AAA development studio as this is exactly what I was expecting all along and is exactly what I want them to be.
I agree with you about acquiring Crystal (get Eidos, too!), but I think dropping The Initiative name would be seen as a failure in the discourse. Maybe they get merged and called Crystal Initiative?
In all seriousness, I think they just keep Crystal and TI separate but have them work together on most/all projects going forward.
Naruto in real life, haha.
I preordered too.
I drop The Initiative name because they’re not established or known like Crystal Dynamics is. Keeping them separate also means that The Initiative would have to hire 200+ people in order to be an AAA development studio which may or may not be easy to do. Merging them with CD and dropping The Initiative name solves every issue short and long term in my opinion.
I’ll be glad once those cursed timed exclusivity deals are over, seriously. It’s just a shame looking at Ghostwire Tokyo and how good it looks, especially the raytracing and we don’t have a lot of that yet for XSX, not like this. In a year or so from now we should finally get it. And hopefully this September we can actually start with Deathloop. We don’t have any real hard details just yet because of those deals, fuck are those deals annoying.
I especially hope this is all it is, not some unpleasant surprise to these deals. We can only wait and see.
