Activision only put out Cod every year as thier survival depended on it. It was thier only hit
I just remembered something. Since they will be exclusive to the Xbox eco-system and it’s all interconnected with PC, they won’t have to make a bunch of different versions of the game. By the time the deal goes through, cross-gen will be dead and PlayStation version will cease to exist so that helps them all in regards to development.
I mean in the last 3-4 few years maybe but that was not the case before. Cod been annual since the 360 and was never a problem.
A Cod every 2 years should give IW, Treyarch and Sledgehammer breathing room to make other things if they want.
Anyway most important thing is reviving Vicarious Visions.
Okay so I wanted to take a swing at this. Here’s kind of what I hope for in terms of content types the studios are working on. I’m going to mainly disregard the genre/content types of smaller titles like what Obsidian is doing with grounded or what Ninja Theory did with Bleeding Edge:
RPG Focused Studios:
- Obsidian
- Bethesda Game Studios
- inXile
- Blizzard [Diablo Team]
- Playground Games [Fable Team]
Shooter Focused Studios:
- 343i
- The Coalition
- Infinity Ward
- idSoftware
- Treyarch
- Sledgehammer
- Raven Software
- The Initiative
- Solid State [mobile]
- Blizzard [Overwatch team]
Racing Focused Studios:
- Playground Games [Forza Horizon Team]
- Turn 10
Action-Adventure/Immersive Sim Focused Studios:
- Ninja Theory
- Compulsion Games
- Machine Games
- Undead Labs
- Arkane Studios
- Tango Gameworks
- Roundhouse Studios
- High Moon Studios
Family Friendly Studios:
- Mojang
- Toys for Bob
- Rare
- Double Fine
- King [mobile]
- Vicarious Visions (if not dissolved)
- Beenox
MMO, RTS and Strategy:
- Blizzard [majority of their teams]
- World’s Edge
- ZeniMax Online Studios
COD’s been an annual franchise for more than 15 years lol. It’s only become an issue in terms of sustainability when Warzone exploded onto the scene and became their most popular console product. It takes a full studio work force to sustain a popular BR. I don’t think they were properly prepared for that sort of commitment.
Realistically dont see a world where CoD doesnt drop at leasf once every two years with 3 main studios there. Anybody debating the contrary is insane lmao.
That and they could never get Blizzard to like actually release games.
Looks really good and well thought out !
Pretty much. Not capitalizing on Overwatch was a fumble for them, then again that’s pretty tame compared to the other issues they had internally.
Do they drop Halo, MC, every two years? Activision did it because they had to, MS can afford to give it time, which they do these days.
Activision did it cuz it made them lots of money lol
And look where it got them. Thankfully Phil and co are the opposite
No IP in MS has 3 AAA studios behind it and I cant see them doing this with COD. Complete waste of talent and oversaturation
The market has already decided that aren’t oversaturated with yearly releases though. They continue to sell.
Vanguard was a huge decline.
At least CoD won’t be pulling parity for PS5 and go strong with Series capabilities like Doom Eternal shown a glimpse.
I mean, sure it’s been annual for a long time, and sure they technically succeeded, but CoD has also been dog shit for a long time. I dont think many people would call it a success as far as quality is concerned.
Of which employees have repeatedly stated was Activision management’s fault.
