Xbox Game Studios |OT6| But wait, there's MORE....studios

Oh I’m not worried, I’m just trying to do the math in my head with the four months of so we have left in 2021.

If we use past years for a template, January through May (pre-E3) tends to be the quieter months without major updates, hands-on, streams, that kind of stuff. So it does seem like after TGA, Xbox goes (somewhat) dark in preparation for E3 2022.

I’d love to be wrong however, and hope that Microsoft FINALLY break out of this damned “E3 or Bust” mindset they’ve been trapped in for years, NOW moreso than ever.

In the past E3 or bust made perfect sense, since they didn’t have much to work with.

Now I feel like they could have multiple SOP/Direct style shows and E3 and still knock people’s socks off. If there was ever a time to break out of E3 or bust, this is it.

I mean we know MOST (not all) but MOST of XGS slate for the next few years, there shouldn’t be a reason to obfescate and hold everything to E3. Let’s have a Hellblade stream, let’s follow Undead Labs around and see some of SOD3 in April.

Start acting like you’ve got 23 studios and start showing January-May and October-November some damn love and attention.

There are no templates, really. Things can happen at anytime.

Why are we talking E3 or bust when MS has had presence at every show and also done game specific events for Horizon, AoE, and SoT.

Those are 2020 arguments that ignore the reality of 2021.

Eh, Gamescom could have be skipped. It was obvious they were really digging for content with it being so close to after E3.

I would have gone E3 → TGS (I think securing a foothold with more Japanese developers/publishers is more important) with TGS have announcements of note (at least CGI a TEW 3 teaser) then one thing for TGAs.

I’m expecting a “big” Xbox trailer/reveal at TGA 2021. before that, no.

Yea im getting sick of Xbox getting shafted in terms of marvel games

I think nick said Microsoft are more focused on LucasArt IP so unless the developer for said Marvel game isn’t First Party then we get the marvel games

You are getting your pre-E3 doom & gloom started early I see

Just kidding. I kind of agree, Xbox need to get away from only focusing on E3. The good thing is, they’re already starting to do just that. Hopefully it continues & we get those “Xbox Directs” for future titles (maybe starting with Redfall?).

Anyway, I think we should wait until the beginning of next year before we start talking about the beginning of next year. There is plenty more gaming goodness to enjoy before the end of this year.

Not necessarily XO proper but I do expect something for the 15th of November. Could be as small as a blog post and tweet to as big as a fanfest online thing to as huge as an XO to as massive as an intent to acquire 2k. I don’t know, but I wholly suspect it will be celebrated in some form. Probably up to Fanfest levels but if bigger than ayy.

Not that it will happen, but how great a statement would it send, if Bill Gates and The Rock, walked out onto a stage on the 20th anniversary of Xbox. Showed a rolling montage from Halo 1, Gears 1 and Gotham Racing through to Halo Infinite campaign…

Then ended the show with Phil Spencer and Satya Nadella walking out to a GTA VI Xbox Exclusive image on a screen and giving the news that they bought Take 2 to continue the journey started 20 years ago… happy birthday Xbox gamers.

Mike drop :joy:

This would be the stuff of nightmares for some. Well, many actually :joy:

As for that Xbox should have more shows, I agree. Two things I would love to see more are dedicated game showcases or streams and I like to believe the Forza ones are the start of that.

And I definitely think it wouldn’t hurt at all if they follow Nintendo a little in the Direct style shows, every few months a stream of like 20 to 30 minutes, updates on smaller indie games, exclusives and third party. Why not, right?

It has everything to be a great game, as long as it is well written.

Star Wars universe and lore for the story line, Western style feel to the TV show, upgradeable armour and weaponry, stealth apsects, Oh and Baby Yoda :joy:

As long as it’s not like that indie show they did earlier in the year… that was too long and strung out, with hosts that didn’t have a clue or interest in what they were doing.

Even monthly blog posts like what the Halo devs are doing at the minute, showing the game progressing would be better than nothing.

Those are indeed way too long. Next time I’ll just wait for them to be uploaded so I can skip through it.

Even the Xbox gamescom show felt a little lethargic, after the E3 show presentation.

I’d rather they announced 1st party 2023 games at E3 2022 for example and then do a show 2-3 months before E3 (March/April) or after E3 (Sep/Oct), with a more in detailed look at aspects of games releasing in 2022 (gameplay etc) within the next 6 months of those smaller shows.

Then hold a gamepass show sometime in the year and detail whats planned for the next 12 months on gamepass from 2nd and 3rd party developers.

Deep dives are the way to go

I wonder what kind of Xbox Series enhancements we can expect from Skyrim this November. We already have it in 4K since One X, and with FPS boost its 60fps. So what else could they do?

Some touches here and there (textures, shadows, lightning, etc…) to match some of the modded versions could be cool, but IDK, this release will still be on 8th gen consoles.

Xbox hasn’t still fully cracked the communication thing, E3 show was great, while ID@Xbox were a solid dumpster fire, Gamescom was meh (they harmed the show themselves, they only needed to present it as an aftershow like during E3 and the reception would have been completely different) and I’ve no hype for TGS after Greenberg statements, anyway I’m not sure about deep dives, you can always drop a 10m trailer during a 60-90m show, they only need more content (there will be more and more year by year) and a show between january and may to fill the void between TGA and E3, then with Gamescom, TGS and X0 (after pandemic), the year would be filled with shows, I don’t want them to copy Sony or Nintendo.

+1 for stopping E3 focus.

Nintendo does it best. They have E3 + random directs. Xbox should have enough content to drop random direct style streams with pure gameplay every 3-4 months.

According to rumors, Avowed was ready to be shown, I seriously doubt they saved it for TGS or TGA so what are they waiting for? E3 2022? Seems way too late tbh.

The first party games they released this year were great but none of them was a showstopper. I doubt Halo will be one either.

All we have right now are a bunch of CGI trailers. I’d kill for a few minutes of Avowed gameplay.

That game seems like it deserves an event like SOP Sony did for Horizon 2.
