Do you think they’re capable to handle tech demo, new IP, another Gears game and getting used to UE5 at one time?
Also, why so many people are staring blindly in Grubb like he would some god in game industry?
He already messed up with some things. One of the biggest is of course (in)famous Xbox Live Gold. Another one is that The Initiative could work on third-person game set in Perfect Dark universe referring to Apex Legends which is a new IP, but in Titanfall universe.
Damn people really like to refer to the handful of things grubb has been wrong on (Hes still adamant free Gold is coming down the line), yet ignore the some hundred times hes been correct.
Tech demo is just one-time showing off thing. Working with the engine is something they’re doing everyday. Now, they want to get to know with UE5 closer, but even with that tech demo it won’t mean they’ll know everything about its capabilities in 100%.
I don’t diminish possibilities, talents and skills around The Coalition developers, but it’s interesting if they could handle 3-4 complex new things to them with around 320-350 people.
Avowed is a new IP. It’s set in already known universe of Eora, but it’s a completely new thing with even a completely different gameplay. It’s not like Pillars of Eternity III and it’s not a spin-off as well.
The tech demo will be shown later this month… so it’s clearly complete and will not disturb development of any new IP or Gears, it’s a one off vertical slice.
They are developing a new IP in order to familiarize themselves with UE5… so that’s one in the same.
I presume Gears 6 full production will begin after that.
It’s a new IP, new brand just using the world known in Pillars of Eternity. That’s it. It’s not called Pillars of Eternity III: Avowed, like these spin-off for Halo and Gears.
Same with Apex Legends which I mentioned. It’s a separate IP, but set in Titanfall universe. Alan Wake and CONTROL are also different games and IPs but they’re connected with one universe. Striking Distance Studios, led by Dead Space and Call of Duty veteran Glen Schofield, is developing The Callisto Protocol set in PUBG universe (whatever universe it has).
Huh, where did I downplay forza or racing games? The fact that it is top 2 most played games on Xbox 3 years after its release just shows its longevity, it has succeeded at something most other open world racers struggle at. Which other racing games on Xbox have been most played after 3 years? I was just acknowledging the fact the Playground really landed on a successful formula with their seasonal playlists.
