If Starfield turns out to be a successful new IP that they continue with, BGS is going to need to grow to support 3 major IP instead of 2. I don’t think 9-12 years per entry of a major IP is adequate, they should ne targeting one release of each per generation (so roughly 2 years apart).
A proper studio would take some time at first but it would be a long-term investment. It would mean more Fallout games (both mainline and spin-offs) in the future ultimately.
The current model is not sustainable for Starfield, TES and Fallout.
It’s like if 343 (which is bigger than BGS on paper) had to juggle between 3 different franchises.
Imagine if there was a gap of 15 years between mainline Halo releases. That woudln’t be sustainable.
Im sure Bethesda knows all this and they will plan accordingly I dont know why such hysteria. Like any studio just aims to drop 1 game a decade (aside from Rockstar).
We don’t know the direction of The Outer Worlds 2 or Starfield, maybe they can fill some Bioware void. I think The Outer Worlds already had some similarities, there are just some squad powers missing, better companion quest and a big epic threat. After all maybe the earth is silent because of the reapers?
4 years after Starfield TES VI comes out? We should remember that TES is already in pre production, this was said by Todd to IGN in 2019 iirc. I can see 2025.
Yeah I completely agree with this. It’s why I hope they work with Bethesda to staff up to 1000+ employees or significantly offload work to support studios so they have max 150 people working on it internally and can develop all three at once while learning on support studios for the bulk of work.
Also I am sure Microsoft and Bethesda have a road map and know they’ll have to increase bodies at each of their studios to improve output. I think Bethesda will be fine and Microsoft and Bethesda most likely have a plan for these franchises and of course they wouldn’t buy if they didn’t.
Some of us seem to think Obsidian will make a new Fallout so that BGS can continue with Starfield, TES VI and so on. But Obsidian is very busy themselves too. So will BGS keep growing until these teams can be split in half or will we really be waiting 9 to ten years for Fallout 5? Good lord.
This is the most important consideration. Zenimax/Bethesda had a plan for Fallout before Microsoft purchased them. Microsoft only offers them more resources including opportunities to collaborate with other studios. There’s no reason to panic yourself into thinking that another Fallout won’t come out for another decade.
Microsoft also know what Bethesda has in development for the nearest future and probably that could be one of the reasons as well. Of course – it’s some kind of long-term investment, but there should be something for now as well. Especially that they also know that some/most of new Xbox Game Studios’ games are for 2023+. That’s why we’re going to get Starfield and Omen in 2022 with new Forza Motorsport, maybe Avowed and something from Publishing as well.
yup the longer people have to wait for a new fallout the more they will want it. Considering we have to get through starfield and elder scrolls 6. it’s going to be a long wait.
