Microsoft is working with multiple third party developers on big projects with 10 year plans, simmilar to Asobo with Flight Sim and Bungie before Halo.

Transcript:
I know Microsoft is heavily involved with some big third party studios right now for exclusives.
Some of the projects I’ve seen pitched the kind of games that I’d expect to be, sort of, on the level of, sort of like where Bungie was with Halo back in the day. The kinda 10 year plan sort of thing like Asobo doing with Flight Simulator.
Microsoft is still moving ahead. I’ve seen things that are like years ahead that are incredibly impressive that made me think that some of the studios involved could end up being acquired because of the scale of some of these projects. But it’s so early that these things might never come to fruition. You know, I always think back to Scalebound, Phantom Dust, these games that were sort of announced that never sort of appeared. More games than we ever know that never get off the ground, you know or get past the prototype stage.
I don’t like teasing that are really far out because it leads to disappointment but you know, for the sake of the podcast and for you guys, I will just say that Microsoft is always planning things. It’s not like they bought Bethesda and OK, we’re done now. They ain’t done. Some of the things they explored is just crazy.
Hadn’t seen this posted. Got it from gaming leaks and rumors Reddit page thought I’d post it here.
I really hope so. I think this overall is pretty exciting. Who knows what it ends up meaning in the long run put I’ve always been a fan of when 1st parties hire out 3rd parties to make new exclusives. I think that’s when you get some of the most surprising stuff for example Sunset, Recore, KI ect
Jorge Salgado said that he’s the lead area designer on an unannouced Obsidian Entertainent game while reacting to a New Vegas speedrun with Josh Sawyer. Wonder which one is he talking about? Not Avowed (tho his LinkedIn says he’s working on Avowed and helping with Grounded) since it’s announced. He almost even said what game it is:
Hello, my name is Jorge Salgado. I am currently a Lead Area Designer in… unannouced project of Obsidian Entertainment.
I saw that and is a bit weird because if it is an unnannouced game then he is not at liberty to say what it is, even if redacted, because IGN knows what it is now.
I wonder what’s taking them so long for CrossfireX. Last year seemed pretty sure at some point. I get covid situation, very likely, but it’s almost a year without a single update.
Okay. Since Microsoft will eliminate the paywall for the free to play games, I can see the MP mode of Crossfire X being held until they that happens. Maybe the campaign will be sooner.
I hope we get to see 12 minutes in the upcoming small event. My most hyped indie game bar none. It got such a star-studded cast with James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, Willem Dafoe.Acting is gonna be phenomenal. The story looked so captivating and intriguing. I feel like im going to love and play it till the end just because of these factors. And if the gameplay is fun enough it’ll just be icing on the cake.
If they’re open to it and fairly cheap MS should acquire Annapurna Interactive. They make such artistic storytelling games that are risky. Gamepass would be ideal for those games.
12 Minutes is just published by Annapurna, the developer is Luis Antonio. Also, Annapurna is an indie publisher much like Devolver Digital, they don’t own any IP, they have very very few studios if not any. There’s zero reason for Xbox to acquire them cuz there’s nothing there to acquire. Xbox should however continue having a great relationship with them. Annapurna has been making a bunch of great games for both Xbox (12 Minutes, Last Stop, Artful Escape) and Playstation (Stray, Solar Ash, Maquette, Pathless) and that’s healthy cuz it shows both platforms are interested in the type of games this publisher helps make.
Am I the only one here who’s pumped for Gamestack live?
Knowing about the technology that will push our platform forward is amazing for me. Imagining XVA and all those new features that D12U offers being shown there is insane.
I actually believe these are the first steps that’ll change game dev as a whole in the future.
