I hope there will be an epic banter on Twitter !! Can’t wait ! :slightly_smiling_face:

Playing devils advocate.

MS are not really concerned about the PS5 userbase, they are now targeting first the so called billions of gamers on Mobile via xcloud userbase (tv, tablet, mobile ect…) with PC/Console a secondary concern to them. They can grow GP massively by targeting this userbase alone and by giving them a ridiculously good deal via the Stella AAA offerings and diverse games line up, they expect people to be joining in there tens of millions, so Yes In this sole mindset i can see them going multiplat especially the first year or so.

Now the flip side of this argument is there core console userbase, and how they will feel about Bethesda games going multiplat (even though the 15 other XGS studios are still solely exclusive). I believe perception and brand wise this could cause some very bad feelings with the core fans, who we all know can be the most vocal and lead to lots of negative press and loss of console fans to the other side.

As MS what would i do? probably go multi for Bethesda old IP’s (ES) and keep the new IP’s (Starfield) exclusive to Xbox.

As Phil what would i do, go solely Exclusive (as he said in his quote) except current contracted deals and online titles.

Who wins that battle is yet to be determined, lets see how this pans out

Tension is rising the answer is soo near yet soo far away

Bethesda’s value was based on its old IP, not on some speculative success of their future ones. Old IP like TES and Doom and Fallout, etc are what need to be the frontrunner for exclusivity, everything else is secondary. That 7.5 Billion came from Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, not the next Arkane experimental passion project or a new ass IP like Starfield that no one knows how good it’ll fare.

Don’t underestimate Starfield. First new IPs from the creators of TES, is a huge and attractive thing. It is the same thing with ND in Playstation - no matter what IP, people are expecting something great. This what MS lacks - they don’t have studios, whose new IPs are the “system seller” by default.

Giving games to Playstation allows to the word of mouth that “you have GOTYs on Playstation and now great games from the other platforms too”. For a lot of people the first investment is 500$ console, not 10-15$ subscription. With TV app it will go after the market that don’t buy the consoles in the first place.

Exactly so as MS i would go multi on them as i want all the money from consoles and also from Mobile via xcloud, i want it all. (this is me speaking as MS btw, if it was up to me exclusive all the way!).

I’m not estimating anything about Starfield cuz we’ve seen absolutely nothing about it outside a teaser. The ND comparison is apt, because they too haven’t made a new IP in like almost two decades. I’m just saying the value of the brand was not built on how good or exciting their new IP are, it’s specifically the old ass IP like TES or Fallout that gave Bethesda the value it has today, so they’d have to be the ones to be exclusive to pull as much marketshare as possible. Continuing to release them on competing platforms does absolutely nothing to change the status quo. And the success of new IP is by definition speculative, that’s all, not saying Starfield will be bad or underperform.

not every move should be about maximizing money as much as possible, they’re a platform and that comes with its own expectations and caveats that go against the need to actualize every single opportunity to make money. Nintendo and Sony know this, that’s why they have zero problems not releasing their games on competition hardware.

Yeah I meant like TLOU and Uncharted are the only IP from them in the last two decades. I wanted to say a decade, but made it two to compare against Bethesda, my bad.

Ahh well🤣

Today is it much more difficult to create a new brand IP without backing of your reputation or history.

I agree. But I’m just saying, the 7.5 B didn’t come from Starfield or any new IP that’ll happen under Xbox. This was specifically “inorganic growth” as Satya himself put it, it was precisely meant to snatch up really big IP in a very short time. If it were that their old IP continued to sell on competing platforms, but the new IP were exclusive, people will just wait to see how this new IP performs for a bit and then decide on getting into the ecosystem. Franchises like TES and Fallout already have a rich history, and there’s bound to be millions and millions of people who just realize that oh wow, so the next game is on this platform, I must get into that platform and that platform only to enjoy it, without even considering how good they’ll be, because the history is there with the IP.

Imagine if they flat out say full exclusivity for everything from here on out. It would be huge news and really, it’s their goddamn right too.

You are not understanding my point, Nintendo and Sony models have nothing to do with the new model MS are going for here, they are after mobile gamers via xcloud this is there end game, to this end going multi dose nothing but increases their bottom line, as they are in essence milking both ends of the cow

Xbox of all people know what sells, if its all about new IP, avowed , sea of thieves, heck even everwild wouldn’t be a thing. Yes having big IP liike ES and Fallout is posh and will drive the gamepass numbers sky high, but I think xbox specifically went out to get really good visionary teams for their talent too.

alright, then. We could continue arguing, but MS is the one to decide. I guess they should just be ready to face quite possibly the biggest backlash since 2013 and justifiably so.

There end game is the billions of mobile gamers out there, so they could well be prepared to eat the gamer backlash?, if anything the media will be on there side this time unlike 2013, shouting how generous MS are which may drown out the gamer backlash lol.

Phil however is a gamer and although he himself has championed gaming for all, he understands the fan base, so i’m very interested to see if he will fight his corner and go exclusive or be swayed by the CFO’s and go multi??? time will tell.

A backlash in a 2013 way? Are you nuts? it will be disappointing for the imitate competitive future ot Bethesda but in the end it’s only good for xbox and gamepass.

A backlash happens when something bad happens.
