Xbox Game Studios |OT4| This is for Studio talk. Studios. It's the Studios OT. Studio talk here (Part 1)

Matt from RE?

I just hope XGS does their thing and doesn’t get obsessed by the latest shiny object from Epic Games or Nintendo.

Next Blog should be about console. Show off X, S and One screenies and talk about the experience/performance targets/etc. PC players are important but Console made Halo what it is. It’s time.

Yeah, agreed.

They have a blog update monthly?

They were doing them monthly, but they havent announced if there will be a may one and what it would be about. I wouldnt be suprised if they skipped may in favor of doing some blog stuff post-e3 re-reveal

I watched the new Xbox era podcast from yesterday. They make a good point about infinites graphics.

The game is a physics based split screen(2 player or 4 player on series x?) open world game running at 60fps with dynamic lighting, and a bunch of enemies on screen.

Show me another game that looks as good that can do the same stuff. Horizon, god of war, last of us 2, Valhalla. I can’t think of anything off the top of my head that can do all that and look good. How many games even have split screen campaign nowadays?

Split screen is dying sadly, but glad Infinite still has it. I think it is 4 players even.

Currently playing through the Halo games with a roommate that never really played a game. We have so much fun even on easy^^

I just realised she won’t be able to play Halo 5 with me and I’m seriously bummed about it. VERY GLAD Halo Infinite has split.

We completed Halo 1 and moving next on Halo 2

Alpha Dog is a mobile studio and BGS Montreal and ZOS have mobile teams. This is kinda vital as tbh, Microsoft’s Mobile efforts (not including XCloud) have been super lacking.

I think these teams should make bespoke mobile experiences with lesser known but still beloved MS IPs and then port them to console and PC free to play (maybe even Switch) when appropriate. There is no need to “bring the console experience to phones”, it’s already there through XCloud, so its time for some great games designed for Mobile.

I think these franchises would be a fantastic fit for a mobile experience:

  • Viva Pinata
  • Fuzion Frenzy
  • Jetpak
  • Blast Corps
  • Rise of Nations
  • Zoo Tycoon
  • Stacking

Also, at least one team should work on a 1 v 100 spiritual successor.

Been saying this so often now. Halo Infinite will have to run on Xbox one after all.

All the complex AI has to work on xbox one and that’s in a open world. I rather see them sacrificing graphics instead of gameplay or AI. Halo 4 is gorgeous but honestly Halo 1 still plays better. A game +10 years older

Yep. You want amazing top of the line graphics to showcase the series x? Well sacrifices would have to be made to do that. Just like what happened to halo 4. Yes it was a showcase for 360, but it had to sacrifice a lot of do that.

This is amazing and all IF you’re playing 2/4 player co-op but if you’re playing SOLO (like I would be), does the game look BETTER or is it the same as if I was playing with a second player and thus, the visuals have to be sacrificed to compensate for the extra player(s)?

People who don’t know anything about game dev, interpreting hiring posts and thinking they are strong indicators of where a game is at in terms of development will never not be hilarious to me.

Now that Moon Studios are busy with their new Action RPG, if The Gunk is successful for both Microsoft and Image & Form, I’m thinking it’d be a great idea to let them do a new Ori game next. Image & Form are known for their mastercraft regarding metroidvanias, I think it’s a great fit.

I wouldnt give ori to another developer besides moon in a million years. If moon is busy then ori can wait.

Would be okay with their being no split screen, it is 2021.

That sounds like a good way to damage your relationship with a good partner. I think Ori can wait until they are ready or confirm they have no intention of returning to it.

What, split-screen co-op is out of date? Old fashioned? I don’t understand.

Split-screen is my favourite form of multi-player. Had so much fun playing hours upon hours of split-screen with friends over the years. Played through the whole Gears saga with my son. Had an absolute blast. Played every Halo with him as well (except 5, sadly) on Normal & Heroic. We’re still working our way through all the playlists in the MCC. We both love it.

We shouldn’t get to enjoy ourselves in this way with the newest Halo, which we’re both very excited for, because it’s 2021? Why?!

People shouldn’t expect halo infinite to be a 95 on meta. FPS’s don’t review that high anymore. I looked through all the major FPS’s to release in the last 5 years or so and this is what I found:

Call of duty: Cold War 77, modern warfare 81, black ops4 85, ww2 80. Overwatch 91. Doom 87, doom eternal 88, valorant 80, borderlands3 91, battle front 75, battlefront 2 68, battlefield5 78, battlefield1 89, titanfall 86, titanfall2 89, apex legends 89, destiny2 87, wolfenstien new colossus 88, halo mcc 85, halo 5 84.

Over the last 5 years or so 91 is the highest reviewed game, so I would say that the max ANYONE should expect out of infinite is 91-92. Anymore isn’t really possible for the genre anymore. IMO the 3 best FPS’s over the last 5 years are doom eternal, apex and none of those broke 90.

I’m not not saying metacritic is the be all end all. I just see people sometimes say it needs a 95, or needs to win Game of the year. That’s not possible anymore for this genre.

Halo 5 got blasted by the community for not having it.

Yep.
