February?
The shift is coming
Phil has already said he doesnât see an event in the near future where Xbox will not have something to show when looking at their road map, and this was before the Zenimax acquisition.
In relation to TGA thatâs two now that Microsoft has made announcements that were well received. I think from a marketing point of view they will carry on doing it.
Iâve been saying this for over a month now, there are about four of them exactly like that and one or two that flip out if you provide clear examples of media bias or the said rampant concern trolling. Just add them to your ignore list until something is done.
Itâs absurd that theyâre just writing this article now⌠I mean Xboxâs studios had more titles released this year than the competitor-that-can-do-no-wrong in the gaming media, and the July showcase showcased more games and more permanent exclusives than either of Sonyâs. So again, itâs ridiculous that this wasnât written earlier; I know the usual suspects will balk about some of them being CG, whilst ignoring those of Sonyâs that were over the past decade when they (and the media) were making their lists. Never mind the fact that Iâd wager weâll be seeing a few years of consistently greater output from Xbox, and thatâs even ignoring the fact that Sony has a tendency to show the same games over multiple E3s before ever being released.
Like Ryan points out, this doesnât even include roughly 40% of the studios / other teams in those studios, they are still big question marks.
I think we will see a really steady increase in public opinion of Xbox from this point onwards. The only thing I can see that will cause a setback is if they are too complacent with Bethesda and allow the new releases to go multiplatform.
Without Bethesda exclusives, Xbox is in a good place - though still not enough. With them, Xbox is in an incredible place.
Absolutely agree with you
Bethesda acquisition didnât fill the gaps for Xbox. People who loves family games, JRPGs and action adventure games wonât be interested in Xbox.
You cant be serious.
This year they could say PS released more high profile exclusives so Xbox doesnât get as much credit. Only when Xbox starts releasing more AAA games will the opinion of the media and general audiencesâ change.
Beginning of last gen, it was power than it was about games, the One Xâs advantage was mostly washed away. But this generation there will be no big holes in Xbox to create negative narratives around.
Xbox will have:
-The more powerful console and the most accessible.
-More 1st party studios than both PS and Nintendo with public announced intentions for expansion, resulting in probably the most diverse 1st party games.
-Most value for money and accessible service in Gamepass, thatâs only going to get better.
-Cloud streaming on any device of choice.
XGS will still have gaps in their lineup, but no single platform holder has every genre covered sufficiently so i donât know why everyone expects Microsoft to. Thatâs where third parties come in.
Obviously itâd be good for Game Pass but i dont know how realistic it is.
Iâm serious. If some people loves JRPGs or action adventure games or family games, why they would be interested in Xbox?
Xbox will NEVER be the place for JRPG simply cause of demographic lol.
Because they offer everything else? Just get an extra console to fill the gap then. Nobody forces anybody to stick with one.
Exactly, MS has been identifying genres in which they are lacking and addressing them, but there are simply too many genres to expect them to cover all. Phil has already said that theyâre looking more E rated content, Japanese presence. (Tango GameWorks done already)
Japanese support greatly improved this gen, so many games that previously skipped Xbox, came to Xbox. And Japanese support should probably get better with unified GDK for both Xbox and PC.
If a company capable of paying 7.5 billion dollars for more shooters and WRPGs, they definitely should be able to fill all the gaps.
I donât think itâs impossible, 2 family studios, 2 action adventure studios, 2 JRPGs studios and a studio for fighting games.
These are precisely the points Iâve been making on our Xbox Acquisition OT, and among what we talk about over there in general. There was a comment on the last thread about how someone didnât understand why several of us have wish lists for acquisitions, and in most of our cases itâs specifically to fill any missing gaps in the portfolio. Of course, thereâs also the prevention of studios from going under, IP security, and plenty of other equally altruistic and âgood for businessâ justifications
Phil has already acknowledged the lack of family games, so i expect weâll see some movement in this area.
I think forming or buying JRPG studios is risky though. I donât think there is a huge market and itâd be very difficult to transition JRPG players over to Xbox.
Thatâs fine but donât blame Geoff and people like him for not being interested in Xbox.
