Between Xbox consoles, PC and streaming to mobile and other devices Xbox covers pretty much everyone interested in gaming. The 0.000001% who only have access to a PS console is super irrelevant, they don’t like to hear it but it’s true.
Look at who it is that said that, it was the head of Playfab. He works for MS not Xbox (there is a distinction there) and he runs Playfab which is a set of multiplatform development tools, his job is to manage the tools so that they can be used no matter the destination of the game and that’s why he says the “average developer doesnt want exclusivity”, he works mostly with third parties. He also does not have any say when it comes to the Xbox Studios, which he indicated are doing everything they can to draw people into Xbox in the same interview.
In a way though he is kinda right, Xbox doesn’t really do exclusivity and hasn’t for a long time, at least not in the traditional sense, due to the fact that all games come out on PC (Windows Store and Steam so technically not exclusive at all on PC), Xbox and Cloud so they are for all intents and purposes a multi plat publisher
I think the games will be exclusive but thats just me
Is this just Xbox related since it’s an Xbox Podcast or is it gaming in general?
Hmmm, I see.
Last part is true, they are like a multiplat publisher, except for PS. With the exception of Minecraft and Cuphead and Ori 1 and 2 on Switch. But you are right, for a long time now they’ve been releasing their games on PC too, so it’s multiplatform. But not cross console or however that would be called.
One thing is for sure, the reach of XGS is immense with Xbox as console, PC, Tablet and phones (mobile), and TVs sometime in the near future.
Yea thats exactly what he’s talking about basically nothing new
Oh man, this shit will be fucking hilarious if it happens regarding exclusives.
Sony: Fuck You
Microsoft: We Love You
LMFAO
If Microsoft decides to put the Bethesda games on a Sony or Nintendo platform, they are beyond help and will never ever get it. Shit will hit the fan that day and I will be off-line that day. Hehehe.
Yeah I wasn’t worried until the Gold-debacle which showed they still have no clue.
Lol
To be fair, the Gold debacle was quickly reversed, and most of the insiders agree it was misfire about pushing GamePass value.
So it’s not like they wanted to do it to do it, they wanted to increase GP subs by overpricing subs on Gold.
Keeping Bethesda games exclusive to GP/GPU would easily drive the GamePass subs they want.
That’s my take.
I think “the gold debacle” is only being used from one point of view, instead seeing the bigger picture.
It was a bad call to push GPU.
Very true. But charging more for Gold meant more money for them, keeping these big ass games for their ecosystem only will mean more and more people subbing to Game Pass.
Yes, well I’d argue that’s exactly why I’m worried. They don’t get it.
Yes, but that would be the correct conclusion. Something I’m not sure they would come to.
Oh shut up dude.
Yep.
Personally, I want exclusive games and content. With the exception of Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo, I 100% expect every game under Microsoft to be fully Xbox/PC exclusive. If they truly do a game by game basis or this shit or that shit, im done. I’m not going to waste my money and more importantly my time into a company who cares more about the other eco-system than it does their own.
With that said, I can’t see Microsoft being that fucking stupid but then again, I know Phil likes to be friendly and buddy buddy when he should be having a killer instinct (oh, and the game too) when it comes to the competition because Sony and Nintendo have that killer instinct which is why they will always be insanely successful.
March is going to be very interesting and once the ZeniMax deal closes, Microsoft needs to put out a statement clarifying everything once and for all. If they don’t, I don’t see this going well for those who are truly hardcore Xbox fans and prefer this eco-system.
This gold debacle just let everyone know xbox fans are vocal about changes that quite simply aren’t good. I dont want to bring console warring here but others would find a way to spin and justify a price increase like that.
We all agreed it was to push game pass ultimate but it just came at a terrible time (pandemic) and they grossly overpriced it too.
You mean what the guy from Playfab said? Well, he didn’t use those exact words though. Instead of a short, but sweet and clear “our games can be enjoyed in our ecosystem only.” he says exclusivity is not the answer.
But I get it, at the end of the day it’s not his place to really go into detail about it. But I bet websites and videos will spawn twisting all these words once again.
OH GOD WE’RE GOING IN CIRCLES.
We’ve now circled back to “Bethesda games aren’t exclusives because Microsoft is dumb” or “They need the money” again.
KILL ME.
My spirit animal.
