The funny thing is I do like gears still and have played it more than most here probably. I’ve gotten the seriously achievements in gears one and 2. Also have reUpped in gears 5 3 times. So no I don’t want to see the franchise die. Just want to see Microsoft’s best studio be noticed by a larger group of people.
The reason why the list is brought up is because it shows how Xbox gamers are spending their time.
I will bet anything that the coalition has already become a studio that works on other IP’s than gears. If it was as successful as they had hoped it would be that would not happen.
Im not going to say if Gears is good or bad or if its a “doomed Ip”. BUT, I would not see problem if The Coalition Studio created a Team B to make new experiences (new Ip).
Well then it’s weird that you are such a big fan of Gears and instead of wishing to see The Coalition improve and built on the series you want the IP to be thrown in the bin because it’s not high on the most played XBL list. Should all the studios that are not on this list and are not making a game on a popular genre (like Arkane for example) drop their projects and copy what’s popular in there too? would that be good for the Xbox portfolio in your opinion? chasing trends and killing classic IP’s because they are not as popular as they were before it’s what made EA and Activision (and even them funded Sekiro and Fallen Order…) what they are now and I am sorry but I don’t want to see MS becoming Activision.
Your posts read like they are from an Activison exec not from someone who loves the series. I don’t care if a game/genre I love is popular or not, I just want to see more great Gears games being made because I enjoy playing them. I don’t play what is popular, I play what it looks interesting and fun to me and a lot of the times a lot of amazing games are not that popular and by your relevancy metric those games shouldn’t have being made in the first place because they don’t fit the criteria for the “success list”.
Just a minority stake. Regardless, this says to me that Asobo probably turned MS down for their independence, which is fine. I just hope MS continues to foster the relationship like they did with the 10 year MSFS deal. I don’t want them to be like Remedy or Moon and mostly break away.
How about we be reasonable. The Coalition can expand to make new IPs while still making Gears. You guys need to chill. Millions of people play Gears and are invested in that IP.
Microsoft still has a 10-year contract on Flight Sim with Asobo. They will remain a key partner now and in the future. If they foster a good relationship, the partnership can continue with whatever game they want to make with Global Publishing, be it a new Flight-Sim game or Crimson Skies or whatever.
So they don’t own them, but they are still a key partner. They’re already making two additional games with Focus, so let’s just chill everyone.
Besides, let’s focus on the toys we DO have, versus the ones we MIGHT have/don’t have.
Lots of fish in the sea, we know Microsoft be out there according to Brad Sams and other rumors, and we still waiting on Zenimax to close.
Friends, I’m just catching up and the Gears debate is getting a bit heated. Please be respectful. People can have any opinion about a game as long as you’re respectful to each other. Also, I think this would be best taken to it’s own thread.
