Building a studio from scratch means hiring hundreds of developers you dont need, office space, utilities and all the other stuff that isnt needed.
Bethesda makes Fallout thats it.

My prediction for Bethesda game studios is
2021 - Starfield
2025 - ES6
2029 - Fallout 5
and on the Obsidian Fallout
2031 - Fallout (west coast area)
Itâs business like literally basic business. Fallout is bigger then both Gears and Halo, and is a major reason why MS acquired Zenimax. They will not let the franchise be dormant.
The only thing I could see happening is to build bethesda up so they can work on two projects simultaneously, that was you would get a game every 2.5-3 years instead of every 5-6. Especially now that they have 3 big games in the rotation
No chance in hell MS wait until 2029 to release thier first Fallout game
TC do Gears thatâs it. Which is bigger, Fallout or Gears?
The Coalition was literally bought and renamed to that so I dont get your comparison at all.
I just want you to know how stupid it sounds to make a studio dedicated to 1 game when it already has a developer and at worse 2 other studios can come in and make a spin-off if required.
Also if this whole dedicated studio to 1 game thing was so good and working well we wouldnât have people more worried about what Coalition plans to do in the future than what are their actual plans for Gears 6.
dudeâŚtoo much of a thing is a bad thing. if Microsoft wanted a Ubisoft like cycle for Fallout and Elder Scrolls there wonât be anything to be excited about anymore. everything you said here is completely against what Bethesda and Microsoft want.
Bethesdaâs in a unique position where pretty much everyone who loves Fallout are into the Elder Scrolls, people who are into those franchises will probably be into Starfield as well. and people into Fallout will probably be into The Outer Worlds 2 and InXileâs new game. Weâll have RPGs releasing for years, we donât need to release a Fallout game every two years.
In the somewhat words of Don Mattrick âIf you want Fallout we have a product that exists, Itâs called Fallout 76 and Fallout 4.â
Whilst I enjoy the back and forth here on the topic of Fallout, the idea that the IP purchases with Zenimax need to be milked or rushed to draw back on that investment is counter to how Microsoft is operating at this time.
The value of IP in games is that while it may not be used every 3 years in a new game, it holds that value from those who enjoy it. Think about Elder Scrolls. Skyrim is heading towards 10 years old in November this year but even with Elder Scrolls 6 being a good couple of years from now, it is still anticipated but that has not detracted from people still playing Skyrim.
You could leave Fallout for a few years and let the first party studios talk amongst themselves and have someone come up with a brilliant pitch rather than taking one studio with history and foisting it upon them to keep the brand going.
It does also go against the entire idea of Microsoft letting the studios build and develop their titles based on their desires.
Xbox will 1000% form a new team from scratch to work on Fallout if the have to or even buy another studio to bring them in to do Fallout. I agree with those saying Xbox wont sit on that IP.
Itâs not counter to how they operate at all, look at how they have studios whoâs entire responsibilities it is to push out Halo, Gears and Forza.
343 calls Halo Infinite âthe start of the next 10 years for Haloâ | PC Gamer
Iâm expecting in between the next 10 years that we get a drastically different singleplayer spinoff Halo game and thatâs pretty much it.
I donât know whatâs going to happen with The Coalition. Iâm expecting its going to be a bit before Gears 6 but that game is probably going to end the sagaâŚmaybe at that point depending on fan demand they figure out if they want to continue to work on the Gears franchise or turn into a Naughty Dog type deal? who knows. One thing is for sure though, you canât really compare Microsofts studios of yesteryears (pre Phil) to how theyâll currently operate them.
from recent interviews it really does sound like Microsoft is very hands off.
Whatâs with the talks about Ms sitting on Fallout ip or needing to get a studio from the ground up to work on it. Am I missing something?
Thatâs my point
No they wont. Do you not understand how stupid that sounds and what a waste of money that would be.
People here think Xbox needs to rush out a Fallout when they have like 6 rpgâs in the pipeline.
Hereâs a question: what happens if (when) Starfield is a massive hit. That means BGS is juggling 3 IPs. I easily could see Fallout rights transfered while they work on the other two. Maybe the new Zenimax online team in San Diego does it and they rebrand to just Zenimax.
Or Bethesda finally has enough funding to hire more people. Crazy concept that.
