Gears might’ve done better if the launch MP wasn’t so botched and the progression system wasn’t so barren.
I think Gears can continue to be popular, but it needs to be supported like it is.
I was trying to buy since november and I finally managed to order my Series X. Now I have to wait 46 days.
lol gotta stop reading into things like that.
I’m actually looking forward to xcloud being updates series x server blades the most out of all of MS’s plans and the uplift in performance it will bring to streaming.
I love the idea of being able to stream a game while it’s downloading so you can play straight away how you can just watch shows on Netflix instantly.
Have you seen a multiplayer game of gears 5? It’s something that can be enjoyed only by hard core fans. With such gameplay they’re never going to attract wider audiences. Wider audiences will play single player and be done with it. As for multiplayer, they can continue to cater to their small but fanatic hard core group of players or they can try and make it more appealing to general public but alienate hard core fans in the process. As long as multiplayer is mainly Wall bouncing shotgun gameplay that’s how it is. Horde is no longer a novelty it once was, as many other games offer similar experience. It’s a shame really as gears 5 is an amazing game with high production value, but it’s still more or less gears we got in 2006.
Ive been saying Gears is a dead end franchise with very little growth and Coalition would be dumb to just focus on it.
100%
Guys would you just let studios do what they want ? If Coalition wants to continue and finish their saga, it is their call, not yours.
Nobody here said to not finish the saga.
Not exactly it is true, but it still pointed out to them putting it on the side, while doing something else. If Coalition wants to work on that first, it is still their right. We should respect that.
That’s true but they are also making a franchise that fewer and fewer people care about, so that has to be taken into consideration.
I mean, they could keep ploughing on… But that would just be a waste. I mean, creatively they must be sick of wall bouncing and roadie running by now, surely?
They run the risk of becoming the Oasis of game developers. Beating the same style to death and only loved by pot bellied dads.
Yeah, and nobody knows what is going to be in Gears 6. You all talk about creative freedom, and yet when a developer want to do their own thing, you throw a temper tantrum. We are moving more and more away from being dependant on sales alone. Game Pass is growing more and more and soon, sales won’t even matter anymore.
That’s the beauty of it, they will make games they want, even if it is not for the mass. We are moving guys, you have to accept it.
Again, if Coalition wants to continue working on Gears as their main path, it is their choice, their decision, not yours.
Where are you getting this from? On TrueAchievement’s Xbox Gameplay Chart for the week, Gears 5 is 17th place, just one place behind Halo MCC. It’s doing fine.
True, but just like Netflix, MS will still hopefully make intelligent decisions regarding resource allocation based on things like engagement/game completion etc. Netflix isn’t some insulated creative community, immune from the impact of people not being attracted to your product.
If mainstream Gears becomes a true niche community as it is heading towards, it doesn’t deserve the big budget allocation that would otherwise go to other teams. They all, financially speaking, drink from the same well now. Gamepass.
I like Gears. I enjoyed both 5 and Hivebusters. But it’s past it’s prime, design/movement wise. If you think there’s hype about Machine Games turning their skills to Indiana Jones, imagine the excitement knowing that the Coalition will be taking you on an entirely new adventure.
Gears needs to change, do something different and then people will come. Having a little bit of almost useless open world isn’t “bold” enough. They need to completely change the formula. People don’t say Gears 5 is a bad game but it’s just eh more Gears. I loved it myself doing co-op with a friend but i can see where people are coming from.
Gears is in this weird spot there it’s not “dead” but it’s not thriving as a massive game. I doubt it’s in a spot where MS goes just kill it, but I can see them doing Gears 6 then giving it a rest. They can come back to it in 10 years time after Gears 6 and the game will feel fresh again. I don’t think it’s IP MS should give up on at all, just needs a rest.
Giving the game a rest will increase the IP value in future, but if they keep pumping out good but not “great” games it will damage it. (I thought the game was great but not everyone did)
Didn’t they have a game they were working on before Gears but they cancelled it? maybe bring that back w/e it was.
Completely disagree with that. Microsoft will care about one thing, and that is number of people buying Game Pass. We are moving in a period where you can make AAA games, even for a small public. That’s the thing with Game Pass. If they are not interested with gears, they can play some other things, if they are, they have a game for them.
So far, AAA games always had to be mindful of sales, and with the budget they had, they had to play it safe to the point of not making the media progress anymore. Game Pass is a cure to that. At first, people were critizing MS for having too much control over their developers, and now they have that freedom to explore any projects they want to make, or existing ones, and people would want to suddenly force them into doing other things. I’m sorry to say, but it is a bit hypocritical.
More than ever, we should encourage them to do what they desire, even if it is not for everybody. Each public, even niche one count and are essential for a service like Game Pass. It is this variety of projects and freedom that is setting MS apart for now. They also are making already big revenues for now, and they didn’t even release the big guns yet.
