I haven’t tried it myself, but after watching the video posted by @uouit_iyyur apparently switching between the two modes is seamless.
Normally no. It is something done by MS themselves in order to encourage people not to hack the OS. You will need a Windows 10 PC though for the procedure apparently. However, if you want to be 100% sure, yeah you should maybe buy another one.

I have no real need for a Series S, and another Series X would probably be a more sensible choice, but I want a Series S so badly. It’s a beautiful piece of tech and it’s lower power consumption would be fantastic as a console streaming box when I need it. Plus, my office has a 32” 1080p TV so I justify it as, well it would be a good thing to move up there when we pick up our extra Series X (maybe for a Halo LE or something).
