Xbox Game Studios |OT12| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

Some more clarity on it.

Saying because it’s frist person you don’t necessarily need the 60fps is very weird to me. Exactly because it IS I’d say 60fps is very necessary. I do get what he says about tradeoffs so that they can have better effects but still hoping they can get it to at least 40 then.

So this will be the new catastrophe.

It’s a definite oof moment, specially after the stink that was done because Starfield didn’t have a 60fps mode at launch.

Hopefully Obsidian has enough leeway with the gaming community that they won’t get dragged as bad as Bethesda for not having a 60fps mode. But they’re part of Xbox now, so I doubt they will get a pass.

I think he is saying this because it is single-player (e.g., not a competitive shooter). It kind of surprises me, but also, after seeing lumen and nanite, etc., going on with the later footage, it probably isn’t a huge shock. I would hope for 40 though.

Yea the “first person” part is weird xd, but more than single player, it’s a RPG, and these aren’t as fast paced as action games or pure shooters.

Also from the way they said it, i wouldn’t discard seeing a 60 FPS mode on launch, and if they don’t make it, i’m sure it’ll exist by the end of 2025, considering this kind of games got higher replayability and some DLC/Expansions that make you come back over the years, well it’s not that bad.

Also true that MS seems to be the company that cares less about 60 FPS modes on their games as most of their last big games came without one, with Capcom probably following with MH too from what i’ve read.

Sucks, but i think it’s just a matter of time most companies will do the same starting next year except for the ones with the biggest budgets

Games like Hellblade 2 being 30 made sense to me but I just don’t see why a game like Avowed has to be 30 fps. Really disappointed by this news. Previews being done on PC too. Annoying

Have they confirmed what Indy runs at on console? Funny if we get 30 at launch there too and a nice 60 patch in time for that PS5 release

Nobody said this.

But there’s also nothing wrong with hoping for at least 60fps, especially when BGS eventually figured it out too. I also see nothing wrong with disagreeing with what the dev said.

We have a saying in The Netherlands, it’s basically let’s not make an elephant out of a mosquito, basically. The ideal situation would be two modes. They really want to push effects and visuals, 30fps, and 60fps mode with some cutbacks, lower resolution etc.

It’s disappointing to me because surely they have played Starfield and seen the difference after it got the 60fps patch. I don’t understand his way of thinking but what can you do.

It’s the same discussion every time, a bit tiring. Those who can’t stand 30 fps on an RPG or any other video game can invest in a PC, right?

Starfield isn’t running UE5 and has had an extra year of time to polish post release

Avowed will very likely get a performance mode at some point as well but devs will prioritise what they think matters the most and for casual console players, they don’t care about 60

I had hopes the delay would be spent on it, maybe it will be probably won’t be at launch.

It’s one of those things where Microsoft looks dumb when they were bragging about 60fps at the start of the gen. It’s not a good look imo and def should use the extra time they have to make it 60fps at launch. Plus, we’re going to of course get the xss discussion due to being 30fps. It does seem weird how many Microsoft games are launching 30fps while other games are launching 60fps

At the very least a 40fps mode, that already makes a very significant difference.

Wahey some good news!

Unsure if its true from what I am seeing on twitter, but apparently they’ve been showing the game running 60fps. I guess they’ve been showing a PC build, and I could’ve sworn they said they would stop doing that. Hopefully they can make it work out for launch, but it does seem disappointing, and I disagree about 30fps being okay for first person

I cant speak for every single person that went hands on but from those ive listened to, it was the PC build

All this 60/30 FPS stuff has just become the new 900p bollocks from the XB1 gen.

I’ll never forget the shit Ryse got for lowering res to improve IQ, so much so that one of the Yerli Bros. had to write up an in depth technical article explaining why they did it and the improvements that resulted. And that game IQ wise still holds up extremely well even today.

As someone said up there if you are so super sensitive to frame rate that a 30 FPS game is literally unplayable for you buy a PC.

Yeah, but there are many current gen games that are launching 60fps , but it seems some of the XB first party games aren’t launching 60fps. I understand I can just play on PC or just use my laptop. It’s just that I prefer to play on console since easier to set up, but it seems to be an issue plaguing some of the xbox games

I hope Phil & Sarah can make sure the next Xbox has more than enough juice to make their 1st party games run at 60fps! I will these devs cared more about performance like the customers that will be playing their games on consoles.

That will never be possible unfortunately. The only way to do that is a mandate on the first party studios that forces them to target 60fps.
