Xbox Game Studios |OT12| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

There being 1 game in a genre means that genre is dead. Mario is one of the biggest IP in the world and it puts out a Banjo style collectathon once every five years.

It doesn’t need to be true collection game, just give people that option and it be a platformer instead. Sonic works, Ratchet works, Psychonauts works, so why too can’t a new Banjo Kazooie game?

I personally think Nuts & Bolts would have been more accepted if it was a new IP or just went with the original concept of it being Banjo Karting, which was going to be a spin-off of Banjo Pilot.

I know they are Nintendo properties, yet I can easily see Banjo Kazooie working as a game like Donkey Kong Country or the new game Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Maybe I’m wrong and no one wants a game like that, yet I still think a new Banjo Kazooie platform game can work, like we’ve seen with other games, just give it a fresh colour of paint.

I’m not totally opposed to the idea of a new BK but it will have to stand out in the way psychonauts did. The platforming was fine but the creativity, charme and humor were what made that gamedso good.

Banjo has to bring that to stand out and the IP can deliver that, they just have to go all in on the humor, the absurdity and the meta-vibe in my opinion. They can’t rely on the ip itself.

Completely agree, Banjo-Tooie is a chore of a game. Donkey Kong 64 was, to me, the higher limit of the collectathon era; Banjo-Tooie pushed just too far. Banjo Kazooie is perfect in terms of length as well as in world size and it doesn’t really drag on too long in any of the worlds. Just feels that Rare attempted to push the limit of how big they could go on N64 and in doing so messed up a good formula.

Having Banjo in Smash Bros was a good publicity stunt, MS should have done something back then as to use that momentum, but I don’t think it’s ever too late to do something and Spyro and Crash have shown there is demand for these games.

Well that’s 1 more source than he usually has before he starts spouting off crap.

If it does turn out that the game needs more time, it needs more time. But in that case I kinda wish they hadn’t slapped a release year on it yet, but I realise game development is complex, anything can happen. I still hope it’s very much on track for 2024 though. We shall see if it gets covered in a possible soonish dev direct I guess.

From my perspective, if it wasnt a high confidence 2024 they would not have put a release window on it. People are just saying this because it didn’t look polished in that trailer.

I wish people would stop harping on about that trailer as a way of saying it needs a delay

That footage was shown in June 2023 and the game likely wont be releasing until late 2024 at the earliest and the footage we did see was not only going to be taken from before June 2023 but apparently handled by people outside of Obsidian that fiddled with the visuals

Games can change massively in a year+ of polish and updates, Starfield was massively improved from the June 2022 to the June 2023 show.release

Me trying to find “muh graphics” on the Most important things in an RPG-list:

not aimed at you, but people saying “didn’t looked polished” when what they really mean is that they don’t like the graphical fidelity or art style… which is changing for the most part lol.

I think there was some oddity to the animations that hopefully they can improve. It could also have been how the trailer was cut.

I think Avowed gets released in September 2024. I would be surprised if it gets delayed simply because after Starfield/Redfall year delays, I can’t see Microsoft putting dates or windows on a game unless they’re certain that it will release in that time frame.

Gaming discourse really sucks if this is based on a prediction post on a forum. Feels like its best to wait for Obsidian themselves to say it’s being delayed.

It is that time of the year.

Klobrille is team FH6 for 2024 :kissing_heart:

The list is mostly easy prediction.

Avowed shifting to 2025 and Midnight making its way to 2024 is the craziest prediction of all😅

2024 will be an interesting watch for the ecosystem. We will see the backlog of ABK games coming to gamepass which I would expect to be done in the first few months of the year. Also it’s not been talked about much but there was a pretty large expansion at ABK in the last couple of years(gone from about 10k to 14k employees in the last couple of years), what outside of COD and their service games they’ve been making and if said games get revealed. We know about the survival game from blizzard but there’s been rumors of other projects being developed. We are also basically getting games from the studios purchased in the first wave of acquisitions that are fully made while under Microsoft.

I’m also fascinated by what they end up doing with AI. There were some stupid takes about an AI art piece that was used to promote indy games that was removed but it got me going down the rabbit hole. Looking at the Microsoft M12 fund(their venture capital fund) they’ve made investments that have already borne some fruit in gaming like blackshark.ai that is being used in MSFS to generate the world that Asobo uses and the recent partnership with inworld AI that M12 invested in also. Some of what they are working on is very ambitious:

I wish people would stop at using graphics as a judgment on games and devs which are well known for their gameplay and story expertise.

Graphics will be fine for Awoved, but this discussion just hurts and hides what is and should be important about the game.

I don’t think they should shadow drop again, that is not something you want to make a habit, especially two years in a row, because once you’ve not done it you’re in trouble

I won’t give them trouble. As for social media, let them burn.
