Avowed looks so freaking good.
More like AWOWed.
Best thing is it releases so close to my birthday.
The visual upgrade over its very first ingame trailer is very significant, love it.
Yeah I’ll totally hold my hands up and admit after that first in engine trailer a couple years back ( I think it was), my hype for Avowed was hugely deflated as it was one of the games I was most looking forward to. But ever since then the game has looked better and better, especially combined with the gameplay details they’ve been releasing, it sounds like Obsidian have another good game on their hands.
It does feel with all the noise around Xbox and their first party stuff (both the good and bad), Obsidian don’t seem to get the praise they probably deserve .
Damn Avowed is way bigger and looks so much better than I expected, makes me super hyped for The Outer Worlds 2 as well.
I don’t know why anyone doubts Obsidian at this point, they’re in the class with the best in the industry IMO. Now, with the resources and time they need, more will hopefully come to that same conclusion. Stoked to return to the Pillars universe
I mean if Avowed has a world design on a Grounded level (x10) it will probably be the best handcrafted game to explore ever. I was much more impressed with the exploration of Grounded than Zelda Breath of The Wild or Elden Ring if on top of that you add NPCs everywhere with stories, quests with choices that can impact the story it will probably be something never seen before
I was impressed by the size of the Grounded garden and all the interconnected biomes that change environment so fluidly, the map design is so good that it took me 200 hours to get around it even though I thought the map was ridiculously small at first. If Avowed can do this we will probably have the most intelligent and interesting hand-crafted open-world game ever.
I really need to play more Grounded… damn spiders
Why do they need 2? Or us one MP and the other SP?
Edit: yeah, you know what likely SP, as they don’t have a SP team.
Could also be different games.
“Lead” is a title showing what level. It does not mean you’re the only one at that position. Some places do it strictly by numbers after the positions, other do it by adding words before the position.
It’s always hard to tell what’s a title and what is someone’s role on a project.
Alright, it still doesn’t make much sense to me because they’re both lead game designer. But I guess @pg2g suggestion of multiple games makes it seem possible.
It’s just a level of the title. They can have multiple as in dozens of “Lead X” developers all working on a single Game project. There is nothing saying it means there is only 1 as in “Leader”.
Unless you are reading someone’s resume with project by project breakdowns, its nearly impossible to know what their role on a project is.
Well, if a job is ‘Game Designer’ and there are titles (prefixes) that are Junior, Senior, Lead then there could be multiple ‘Lead’ because it’s an indication of their specific job title not their role on the project
Job Titles can get very weird. About the only thing most really care about is the benefits and salary. I’ve seen weird ones at other companies too, such as “Consultant Lead Engineer” was the highest even though they were direct hires. Their logic was Consultant meant to give more prestige. One place combined it with “Principal Consultant Lead Engineer” – a lot of word salad on that. One place also placed “Vice President” in part of your title, typically seen at Financial Institutions, always seemed like a joke because out of a group of 10 people about 8 would be Vice Presidents.
Microsoft proper has some weird titles too. They used to go like this:
- Intern
- Contractor
- Software Development Engineer (SDE)
- SDE 2
- Senior SDE
- Principal SDE
- Partner SDE
- Distinguished Engineer
- Technical Fellow
Yep I’m a Technical Lead but so are other people in my overall team - it’s often in development more about the skills and deep knowledge to be capable of being the lead technical person on big projects or workstreams, not that you’re the only one at that level
