Xbox Game Studios |OT11| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

Lost track of how many times I have watched that Fable trailer just for the music. The music that kicks in about half way into the trailer is so good

Yep Blizzard is huge, to count them as one would be like saying Ubisoft is one studio too.

It’s likely 32 separate identifiable entities but 40+ studios.

Yeah, and some of those, like Demonware, aren’t really game studios as much as a middleware business. But regardless, they have a whole lot of game dev resources.

Honestly, what shocks me after the showcase is how many projects Microsoft has in its pipeline from their internal studios alone, without even taking into account the projects from Global Publishing. Truly a huge difference from several years ago !

I know a developer of Fable and even if he didn’t reveal much about the game to me he reassured me by saying that the trailers so far do not show an RPG but he assured me that Fable is a deep RPG with choices, consequences, systems and customization it’s a real next generation Fable game they still have a lot to show and I think we will see Fable at the latest at Developer_Direct in January 2025 but we will probably see it before at TGA it seems to be the big game put forward by XBOX for 2025

I think it was leaked/rumoured a long time ago that Fable is deeply inspired by The Witcher3, and whilst I don’t think the Witcher 3 is a particularly deep RPG, it’s more than adequate.

That’s all really exciting and reassuring to hear. I honestly never doubted Playground Games, even though plenty of people still get confused thinking a racing studio is making it and that is someone true as some devs moved over, the rest of the team came from across the industry and mostly from studios with an RPG focus. I’ve loved what they have shown and look forward to the deeper dives in the future.

Personally, im expecting Fable to have it’s own Direct after the Showcase next year. As for the Developer Direct, im guessing Towerborne (don’t see it releasing this year), South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, a third party game that Microsoft wants to promote and a smaller title. The big one will be Doom especially if it releases in March like I believe it will.

March would be awesome for Doom. Man that game is going to rock!

I think this rumor is false in general when a developer takes over an IP address that he did not create they ask the entire development team whether designers, artists, musicians, writers… to replay old games in the franchise and capture the spirit and universe of the game. Fable is an RPG with a ton of systems and I think the whole team at Playground Games have replayed Fable over and over again they even recruited developers from Lionhead. Fable remains its own RPG formula; it is a unique proposition on the market, a bit like the Bethesda formula. And if anything stands out from this Xbox Games Showcase it’s that Microsoft does not fall into this ease of specifications which must sell to the general public they have made Perfect Dark an immersive spy sim with an Eco-Sci setting -Fi, South of Midnight they took the huge risk of dividing the framrates by 2 and giving it a totally unique aesthetic style. State of Decay 3 remains in line with its predecessors, it remains a unique formula on the market. So I think that Fable will remain Fable and what makes Fable a unique work Playground Games are capable of it I don’t see Microsoft trying to sell Fable as a general public game it will remain an RPG for Hardcore Gamer above all.

Wasn’t the new PG game before it became Fable not inspired or similar to Horizon ZD? I recall a job posting saying that their new IP was open world, action adventure iirc and Horizon ZD was mentioned. Who knows, maybe that project was not made and it became Fable.

If it takes inspiration from Witcher 3, hell yeah, Horizon ZD? Depending on what I guess.

I think more that it is inspired by Horizon in the staging of fights with camera movements and animations locked on the character. if you watch the trailer and even read the Youtube description of the first In Game video of Fable it says “your choices will change Albion forever” and in the last trailer we see that some NPCs will like us and others will hate us. The trailer puts the word “choice” a lot.

here Humphry somehow breaks the 4th wall and addresses the player directly by talking about bad choices.

Good point about the camera. The fighting does seem up and close in the trailer, very nice.

Man I can’t wait to just explore that town, I assume it’s Bowerstone? I am very curious what PG is gonna do emotions wise, the Fable games had those emotions or expressions you could do. And I’m hoping to laugh my ass off with the humor.

I was never that big on the old Fable games although I did enjoy 2 somewhat

This however, im incredibly excited for, PG are such a good dev

I feel like this strongly indicates outer worlds 2 will also have third person. Not my preference, but glad it’s there!

Options are always great to have. =)
