My issue is that it’s not an inconsistency, Microsoft was already doing this before they acquired Bethesda with XGS and Minecraft. Kept doing it with Bethesda and older game remasters/updates, and will continue doing so with ABK and CoD/older games that could get resmasters.
I get he was frustrated, but he did talk with Phil about the situation. So he likely got some sort of understanding.
Edit: the Sega proposal though would have been a definite inconsistency imo. As they would have kept of Sega running as a 3rd party.
Just saw this, and it’s a valid concern. I feel Bethesda and some others would feel jealous about Activision and potentially Sega games being multiplatform. In Bethesda case they would want to maximize on revenue by also releasing major titles like Starfield, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, etc.
I don’t think a first party 's goal is to maximize revenue. There may be some there that wish as many people were playing their games as possible, but I think they’re get used to it like any other first party.
Are Naughty Dog, Insomniac, etc jealous because they can’t release on Xbox? How about Obsidian or InXile and Playstation? I really doubt it.
I agree, but I think in Pete’s defense he’s probably thinking that out loud. As an outsider it seems logical that if you’re signing to a first party publisher then shouldn’t expect games to release outside of their ecosystem. I just think Pete is probably wondering why can’t Bethesda games also be multiplat too, but it’s clear that if it isn’t live service or made for Japan then it’s most likely an xbox/pc game
Notice the budget for their other planned games is in the 40-50 million Euro range, which is approximately what Microsoft has committed for their new Xbox project.
I would assume that means the new Xbox game will be approximately the size/scope/quality of Outriders, Bulletstorm, etc. Which is great news.
They evidently wanted to ship a smaller side project before gears 6 but changed their mind.
That being said gears 4 shipped nearly 4 years ago. And unless that little side project was actually much bigger I think we have to assume gears 5 is pretty far along.
I’m frustrated with the news about The Initiative, I’m just curious as to why things could’ve gotten so scrambled to the point where they only seem to have around 40-50 employees and had to restart development so many times. While I understand that scrapping and restarting in order to hit a great stride in quality is important, its overall very frustrating to hear about how expensive and difficult this process can be.
I think Xbox should consider at least opening a studio focused on smaller budget games that keep the core focus on making fun projects. It’s unrealistic for game pass customers to be happy with just 4 XGS first party games a year when they’re paying $17 a month for Game Pass Ultimate. Maybe they have to use Global Publishing more. Towerborne seems cool, if we have a few exclusives like towerborne a year and pushed exclusive IP more in advertising maybe people would consider subbing to Game Pass or grabbing an xbox.
awful journalism from ign, like youd expect. The bioshock infinite footage on the right isnt an official trailer from 2k but is a mash up of different segments (combination of release gameplay and actual trailer snippets) trying to match the clockwork revolution trailer, information which is not disclosed anywhere. And thats not mentioning that some of this similarities are straw clutching or straight up nickpicking similarities (the character picking up and examining the pistol, like thats never been in any other shooter other than bioshock)
4 first party games a year equals one game every three months. It seems acceptable to me and also the Game Pass will continue to add more third party and indie games.
Microsoft can have excellent smaller indie games in Game pass that aren’t published by
them.
You can clearly see it right now.
There’s
Ghost Song
Ghostlore
Cassette Beasts
Planet of Lana
Gang Beasts
and more!
But, we are all aware that these games eventually leave the library. I started a play through a few weeks ago on Omori and now its leaving. You know what I did? I bought the game on the Nintendo Switch, not the Xbox. It’s difficult to advertise game pass for 3rd party games when we all know these games eventually leave the service. Netflix originals stay on netflix for a long period of time, only rarely do originals get delisted, but there is a big difference between game pass and netflix. They has a whole lot more originals than Xbox does, you can trust Apple TV for example to have series that won’t disappear from the library anytime soon.
It’s just odd that Xbox Global publishing doesn’t push more with indies. Yeah, you don’t need to show off those games as heavy at your big event, you can have a separate event for the smaller published games. The cost of publishing games is costly, there are indie games in development that are crying for funding. Why doesn’t Xbox Global publishing attempt to publish some of these indies and make them permanent staples for Game Pass?
we could have party games, puzzle games, platformers, shoot em ups, leaderboards, fighting games, beat em ups etc. Like the good old days of Xbox Live Arcade. I’d love it if Xbox Global publishing maybe created an arm like Devolver Digital, or even Adult Swim games. Microsoft has so much more money than these publishers and they could fund hundreds of these projects at a time and keep them as permanent IP exclusives to Xbox.
This is great news. This is taking advantage of RDNA2 now? Or am I thinking of something else here? Is this the feature that can mean while it’s a lower resolution, it looks as if it’s 4K? Digital Foundry did say the Direct footage looked real crisp. Even though the (internal) resolution wasn’t super high.
